Job Summary and Mission
The new product launch director is responsible for planning, developing, directing and coordinating new product commercialization, ensuring product launch excellence and delivering timeline, cost, asset utilization and revenue/market growth targets.
As director new product introduction, will be responsible for driving end to end supply chain solutions and project management expertise for new product launches aligning capabilities and processes to the company’s strategic vision, goals and plans, and influencing the go-to-market strategy.
Also identifies emerging trends and relevant innovation to Starbucks’s strategic product goals, and integrates them into the end to end new product launch process and systems (like stage gate review), developing best in class standards, tools and training. Models and acts in accordance with Starbucks guiding principles.
Summary of Key Responsibilities
Responsibilities and essential job functions include but are not limited to the following:
Leadership –Setting goals for the work group, developing organizational capability, and modeling how we work together across:
• Identifies and communicates key responsibilities and practices to ensure the immediate team of direct reports promotes a successful attitude, confidence in leadership, and teamwork to achieve business results.
• Leads the development of core competencies in new product development methodologies, adoption of new production introduction technology and project management to launch new products and product transitions
• Supports the implementation of Company programs, procedures, methods and practices to promote Starbucks key messages and achieve a competitive advantage.
• Ensures product launch readiness excellence across multiple business functions, supporting a holistic portfolio view of key innovation for Starbucks
Planning and Execution- Developing strategic and operational plans for the work group, managing execution, and measuring results:
• Leads the development of standards, processes, tools and training to support the development of core competencies in product commercialization, based on industry best practices.
• Plans and manages business unit and department processes and practices to ensure that programs are aligned with company business goals and objectives.
• Prepares, communicates and educates client groups and team on changes in policies and practices within the organization.
• Allocates commercialization resources to new product launches and product transition initiatives in accordance with company strategies and priorities.
Business Requirements - Providing functional expertise and executing functional responsibilities:
• Develops, manages and coaches new product introduction managers to manage product launches and product transitions, cost savings initiatives, projects and programs.
• Provides expertise, input or feedback to assist in the development of product commercialization programs and project management methodologies, standards, tools and training.
• Directs activities to identify business improvement opportunities that result in increased customer satisfaction, product quality, efficiency, reduced costs, process improvements, and reduced cycle time across the supply chain
• Serves as primary interface to category and other businesses that want to initiate a product launch or product transition to ensure that optimal business plans are executed throughout the supply chain.
• Understands key business requirements and performance measures to execute programs effectively.
• Understands category strategies and ensures linkage of product and program plans to support the strategies.
Partner Development & Team Building - Providing partners with coaching, feedback, and developmental opportunities and building effective teams:
• Challenges and inspires partners to achieve business results.
• Conducts and ensures the completion of performance reviews.
• Ensures partners adhere to legal and operational compliance requirements.
• Mentors, coaches and provides training to commercialization managers to increase their competencies in new product development methodologies and areas of project management, including project integration, scope, time management, management of costs, quality, human resources, communications, risk and procurement.
• Provides coaching, direction and leadership support to team members in order to achieve partner, business and customer results.
Summary of Experience
• New Product introduction, commercialization, launch, project-based roles - 10 years
• Experience in multi-market, multi channel product launches - 10 years
• Progressive experience in multiple areas of expertise within manufacturing or supply chains, such as production planning, engineering, project management - 8 years
• Building, leading and managing direct reports
Required Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
• Business Acumen: creates an optimal supply chain and future improvement plans in product commercialization process to deliver business strategy.
• Ability to achieve goals through direct and indirect influence
• Ability to apply sound business principles and practices to project management and change management processes
