Job Description
The role of the Director, Food Safety and Quality Assurance is to provide direct oversight of all activities pertaining to product food safety, quality systems & inspections, establishment sanitation and pest control. This position is instrumental in ensuring the implementation of food safety programs and the adherence to all federal, state, and location food safety regulations to ensure compliance is met by all business units within the company.
• Coordinate the creation, revision and maintenance of all relevant policies and documentation including SQF, HACCP, recall policies and procedures.
• Create and administer an audit program to monitor stores and facilities to ensure compliance with company policy and food safety and health regulations.
• Urgently address all food safety issues.
• Lead the creation and implementation of food safety practices to ensure regulatory compliance as dictated by the FDA, USDA, and various health departments as they relate to all areas of the company to ensure compliance (FSMA, FDA Food Code, Menu Labeling, etc.).
• Demonstrate a thorough understanding of HACCP as it relates to the manufacturing facilities, Milton Distribution Center, and retail operations.
• Ensure compliance with applicable permitting, licensing, etc. as necessary in the department for new store construction and store remodels.
• Provide oversight and guidance for any infraction incurred as a result of a food safety or quality violation in any business unit.
• Act as a liaison to senior management to communicate any serious food safety violations affecting the company.
• Procure any third party services needed on behalf of the department such as pest control, retail chemical suppliers, etc.
• Responsible for budgeting, purchasing, and capital expenditures for the Food Safety and Quality Assurance Department.
• Review and approval of supplier-provided documentation and specifications for private label brand products.
• Monitor, assess, and provide analytics of the effectiveness of the current quality assurance programs and revise and update as needed.
• Develop and maintain relationships with state and federal agency inspectors.
• Oversee pest control and eliminate efforts for all facilities.
• Develop measurable goals and objectives for the associates and properly evaluate and communicate.
• Conduct routine onsite inspections of areas of oversight.
Job Requirements
• A bachelor’s degree in food science, microbiology, or related field plus a minimum of 5 years of related experience.
• Understanding of food safety and regulatory requirements for all business units.
• In-depth knowledge of food safety practices in all areas of the company.
• Solid understanding of HACCP and completion of a recognized training course.
• Completion of a FSPCA-Approved FSMA training course to achieve status as a Preventive Controls Qualified Individual.
• Completion of a Food Safety Certification Program at the retail level.
• Analytical ability to interpret statistical data.
• Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
• Ability to present in large group settings.
• Strong business and financial acumen.
• Effective organizational, communication and writing skills.
• Ability to work effectively in a team environment.
• Detail oriented
• Ability to direct and handle multiple tasks, prioritizes, and acts with a sense of urgency.
• Must have core computer competencies including an in-depth knowledge of Microsoft Office.
