POSITION SUMMARY:
The Director of Transportation will be responsible for effective and efficient transportation functions for the Williams-Sonoma, Inc.'s Global Supply Chain. This individual will be responsible for overall strategy and daily operations including inbound domestic and international transportation as well as all outbound transportation in the United States and abroad.
PRIMARY FUNCTIONS:
• Direct the daily activities of the Domestic and International Transportation Departments.
• Design transportation strategies and plans that are consistent with and support the supply chain and the company goals and objectives.
• Negotiate freight agreements to reduce transportation costs and improve service levels.
• Partner with vendor compliance to maintain an updated routing guide and ensure compliance.
• Stay abreast of domestic and international market trends.
• Partner with all areas of the organization to move product as quickly and cost effectively as possible.
• Achieve high performance in executing the short term and long term expectations by leading and developing the entire transportation team.
• Be engaged with the team and the customers served by the transportation department both internally and externally.
• Lead the inbound and outbound domestic transportation function for the company.
• Design, implement and manage the optimal network of carriers and third-party providers to deliver the best cost and service performance.
• Maintain industry knowledge and expertise by evaluating and implementing current technologies.
• Maintain successful business relationships with the Distribution Centers, Furniture Hubs, Corporate Partners, Carriers, Vendors, Retail Stores and all other customers.
• Lead the direct import function for the company. Achieve the best service and cost.
REQUIREMENTS AND QUALIFICATIONS
QUALIFICATIONS:
• BA/BS with major in Business, Logistics, Engineering or equivalent work experience. MBA or Masters in Supply Chain Logistics desired.
• Minimum of 10 years in international distribution, transportation, or logistics roles and having responsibility for comparable scale and scope.
• Experience in a high volume, fast-paced, dynamic retail company.
• Excellent leadership skills with the ability to motivate and develop a team.
• Proficient knowledge of Microsoft office applications (Excel, Power Point, Outlook and Microsoft Projects).
• Written and oral communication skills.
• Knowledge of Warehouse Management and Transportation Systems
• Travel as required
