The Home Depot Rental Division operates in over 1100 locations of The Home Depot across the US and Canada, offering large towable equipment, tools, trucks and trailer rental along with on-site equipment delivery. The large equipment fleet includes trenchers, chippers, mini-excavators, skid steers, aerial work platform equipment, and tractor loader backhoes among others. With a large team of highly trained technicians, shop techs, and VIP Delivery Technicians and customer care associates throughout the United States and Canada.

Position:
The Market Manager is the acting operational leader of his or her assigned territory, reporting to the Regional Manager, and is tasked with the responsibilities outlined below.
Primary Responsibilities:
• Drives overall operations of the Market, including personnel management, equipment maintenance and repair, rental performance of the fleet, Home Depot store and associate relationships, equipment delivery, revenue and expense control, and any other key performance areas as defined by the Regional Manager or Division Leader.
• Co-owns with Regional Manager the hiring and training of support staff, including Area Rental Managers (ARMs), Mobile Service Technicians (MSTs), Delivery Service Technicians (DSTs), and Shop Techs.
• Co-owns with Regional Manager the performance management of employees in the Market, including conducting annual performance reviews and ongoing performance conversations and documentation.
• Manages labor of field technicians to ensure appropriate technician coverage for the Market, including creation of work schedules and on call assignments, and management of employee overtime.
• Manages operational compliance of all tech work performed in the Market, including store inspections, lift inspections, preventive maintenance, equipment repairs, equipment deliveries, and new equipment deployment.
• Manages equipment maintenance and repair for the Market, ensuring that all fleet in assigned stores is properly maintained to maximize the rental-readiness and utilization of the equipment.
• Reviews daily Down Equipment Report, and works with ARMs, MSTs, and Shop Techs to keep their Percent of Units Down (PUD) and Average Days Down (ADD) in line with company targets.
• Uses their mechanical knowledge and best practices to train and support ARMs, MSTs, DSTs, and Shop Techs who repair, preventively maintain, and/or make customer deliveries of the equipment.
• Ensures all equipment deliveries and pick-ups are completed within scheduled time windows by DSTs and other personnel with the goal of creating an extraordinary customer experience.
• Develops and maintains effective and cooperative long-term relationships with associates within The Home Depot, including tool rental associates, department heads, store managers, and district managers.
• Provides for and schedules training for THD store associates on CPER Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) as well as equipment operation and product knowledge.
• Conducts store walks to audit stores’ overall adherence to CPER SOPs, including check-out/check-in of tools, qualification of the customer for the right machine, and presentation of the line-up (appearance of fleet, security, and signage).
• Monitors performance of the rental fleet to ensure each unit is achieving its budgeted targets for revenue and profitability.
• Works collaboratively with THD Store Managers and Department Heads to maximize the rental opportunity for Compact Power through optimal parking lot staging locations of the line-up.
• Recommends and executes fleet optimization moves at specific store locations to improve the fleet mix and overall performance, including adding units that are in high demand, transferring underperforming units out of the stores, or selling aging equipment that is prone to breakdowns.
• Conducts ride-alongs with technicians to audit the overall quality of work, and to observe, reinforce, or improve specific patterns of behavior.
• Responsible for maintaining accurate wholegoods and parts inventories for the Market, by ensuring that inventory management procedures are followed by all technicians, including execution of equipment transfers, parts orders, parts transfers, and correct usage of work orders to relieve parts from inventory on service calls.
• Leads the team to fully embrace, fully comply with, and effectively use required technology and processes for proper documentation of all work performed.
• Ensures that company vehicles, computer tablets, laptops, phones and any and all other equipment used personally and by his/her team is maintained within company and DOT guidelines.
• Reviews monthly credit card charges for assigned employees to ensure all charges are valid and within company guidelines.
• Promotes a safe work environment, safe driving practices, and works to reduce/eliminate work-related injuries.
• Additional responsibilities added as required by the Regional Manager or Division Leader.
ESSENTIAL SKILLS:
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
Must be eighteen years of age or older.
Must be legally permitted to work in the United States.
Job Requirements
• Proven leadership skills and the ability to performance manage a team
• Previous management experience of a business unit
• Ability to work collaboratively with store level and field level colleagues in order to provide a spectacular customer experience, and optimize and grow the business.
• Ability to provide world class customer service, and inspire other team members to do the same.
• 3+ years of management experience, rental industry experience is a plus
• Working knowledge of key categories of rental equipment, including basic applications, features, benefits, and safety issues.
• Understanding of financial statements and performance reporting
• General knowledge of equipment maintenance and repair, including gas and diesel engines, hydraulics, and electrical systems
• Understanding of the importance of technology, and the ability to adopt and accelerate the competent usage of technologies across the field team
• Effective verbal and written communication with field personnel, store associates, and customers
• Valid driver’s license with acceptable driving history
