Job Summary and Mission
This job contributes to Starbucks success by leading strategic planning, annual budgeting, and quarterly forecasting efforts and directing analysis on key areas of performance for a Starbucks business unit or department, which may include collaboration with internal or external stakeholders. This job assimilates financial and non-financial information to influence short-, medium-, and long-range decision making. May also lead ad-hoc analysis and cross- functional/business unit projects to improve operational efficiencies and optimize profitability Models and acts in accordance with Starbucks guiding principles.
Summary of Key Responsibilities
Responsibilities and essential job functions include but are not limited to the following:
Leadership- Setting goals for the work group, developing organizational capability, and modeling how we work together:
• Identifies and communicates key responsibilities and practices to ensure the immediate team of direct reports promotes a successful attitude, confidence in leadership, and teamwork to achieve business results.
• Prioritizes workload of team to ensure achievement of objectives, including identification and resolution of potential resource conflicts
• Leads cross-functional/business unit project teams.
• Supports the implementation of Company programs, procedures, methods and practices to promote
Starbucks key messages and achieve a competitive advantage..
Planning and Execution- Developing strategic and operational plans for the work group, managing execution, and measuring results:
• Contributes to the development of long-term strategies and plans for the business unit/department.
• Creates and manages strategic planning, budgeting, and forecasting processes for a business unit or department.
• Plans and manages business unit and department processes and practices to ensure that programs are aligned with company business goals and objectives.
• Prepares, communicates and educates client groups and team on changes in policies and practices within the organization.
Business Requirements- Providing functional expertise and executing functional responsibilities:
• Directs the development and implementation of monthly management reports, variance analyses, and financial review processes. Designs and implements procedures for more efficient reporting.
• Proactive engagement and leadership with BU/dept leadership team in identification and evaluation of initiatives to drive growth and optimize profitability. Provides interpretation and direction regarding consolidated financial performance to all levels of management.
• Participates in cross-functional teams to facilitate continuity of business unit/department plans across
Starbucks.
• Plans and executes methods of improving business performance to achieve financial and operational goals.
Identifies key performance indicators and tracks performance against these measures.
• Provides clear direction to the business unit or department regarding the processes, utilization, and coordination of financial resources. Uses operational and financial expertise to ensure the development of optimized financial solutions.
Partner Development & Team Building- Providing partners with coaching, feedback, and developmental opportunities and building effective teams:
• Challenges and inspires team members to achieve business results.
• Conducts and ensures the completion of performance reviews.
• Ensures partners adhere to legal and operational compliance requirements.
• Oversees training and development of partners directly and indirectly managed and makes effective staffing decisions.
• Provides coaching, direction and leadership support to team members in order to achieve partners, business and customer results.
• Models and acts as a leader within the CFO organization, providing mentoring, insights and collaboration to improve the operation or efficiency of the function and company.
Summary of Experience
• Leading a financial operations teams to support strategic & financial planning, reporting and analysis of a business unit or department.
-10 years Management or supervision years
-5 years Progressive experience managing varied planning, financial analysis, and business management practices in a large global company with emphasis in retail, consumer product or distribution.
Required Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
• Ability to apply sound business principles and practices to project management and change management processes.
• Ability to apply knowledge of multidisciplinary business principles and practices to achieve successful outcomes in cross-functional/business unit projects.
• Ability to interact with senior management and communicate at all levels of the org.
• Ability to lead and achieve goals via influence, persuasion, negotiation and effective communication.
• Strong analytical and problem solving skills
• Ability to build internal and external business relationships
• Advanced financial and accounting knowledge with strong financial analysis and planning skills
• Ability to identify and evaluate opportunities and translate into a context others can understand
