Director – Application Engineering

The Director of application engineering is a key senior technology leader responsible for all aspects of application and solution development surrounding core technologies in the Westfield IT application portfolio. The role is also accountable for all aspects of the engineering development lifecycle, including architecture, technical design and development, coaching staff, mentoring, & building partnerships within the various WIT technology teams.
This individual will manage key project deliverables and lead a strong operational backbone including establishing improved processes for engineering support. This role will also work closely with other teams to drive innovation and create solutions to business and technical challenges on an ongoing basis.
The initial focus of this role will be to manage our enterprise Salesforce.com solution, as well as our current and future customized applications and integrations. This role will report to the Vice President, Business Solutions.
Responsibilities for this role include:
• Manage key milestones and deliverables of day-to-day development, enhancements, application architecture, and third level support responsiblities
• Establish & lead a strong operational backbone including establishing improved processes for application and engineering support
• Partner with BA, PMO, & Infrastructure organizations along with rest of the application & product teams to play a critical leadership role in moving existing workloads forward & leading new development for assigned solutions
• Ensure that programs, initiatives & projects are delivered on-time and within budget. Manage risks appropriately & plan proactive mitigation
• Regular status reporting including but not limited to budget, project & support status, resources to the VP of Business Solutions & other WIT leadership as needed
• Ability to provide real-time resource assignment and backlog
• Agile focused development methodology and processes, including scrum master responsibilities
• Ongoing strategic organizational planning and resource capacity planning for solutions and / or products
• Responsible for activities involved in the analysis, design, development, troubleshooting, debugging and maintenance of:
◦ SaaS application development (Salesforce.com, Force.com, Apex)
◦ Custom application development, both on premise and cloud
◦ Mobile development tools and technologies
◦ APIs
◦ Additional tools and applications as deemed necessary
• Participation in the creation of technology roadmaps
• Provide technical ownership for assigned application technology products
• Experience and focus on strong UX/UI
• Driving effective alignment of technology initiatives to support business and IT strategies
• Management of engineers, including hiring, goal setting, performance management, coaching, mentoring, and skill development planning
• Deliver solutions to meet critical business priorities, ensuring adequate system testing is completed, managed and reviewed to allow for more successful QA and UAT
• Stay on top of technology trends and evolution for tools that fit into the areas of responsibility
• Additional duties as required or requested
The minimum requirements and skills include:
• 7+ years of managing a large technology team
• 5+ years of delivering enterprise software solutions
• Extensive experience with Agile and Scrum methodologies and tools
• Proven history of building high performing technology teams
• Proven history of building trusted relationships with Business units
• Extensive experience with SaaS products such as Salesforce
• Deep understanding of DevOps and continuous delivery methodologies
• Deep understanding of Quality assurance and user testing
• Excellent program and project management skills
• Excellent product management skills
• Experience in business process transformation
• Deep understanding of secure software development
• Experience with complex integrations between multiple application types
