Delek US Holdings, Inc. is a diversified downstream energy company with assets in petroleum refining, logistics, asphalt, renewable fuels and convenience store retailing. The refining assets consist of refineries operated in Tyler and Big Spring, Texas, El Dorado, Arkansas and Krotz Springs, Louisiana with a combined nameplate crude throughput capacity of 302,000 barrels per day. Delek US Holdings owns 100 percent of the general partner and 81.6 percent of the limited partner interest in Alon USA Partners, LP (NYSE: ALDW), which owns a crude oil refinery in Big Spring, Texas, with a crude oil throughput capacity of 73,000 barrels per day and an integrated wholesale marketing business.
The logistics operations primarily consist of Delek Logistics Partners, LP. Delek US Holdings, Inc. and its affiliates also own approximately 63 percent (including the 2 percent general partner interest) of Delek Logistics Partners, LP. Delek Logistics Partners, LP (NYSE: DKL) is a growth-oriented master limited partnership focused on owning and operating midstream energy infrastructure assets.
The asphalt operations consist of owned or operated asphalt terminals serving markets from Tennessee to the west coast through a combination of non-blended asphalt purchased from third parties and produced at the Big Spring, Texas and El Dorado, Arkansas refineries. The renewables operations will consist of plants in Texas and Arkansas that produce biodiesel fuel and a renewable diesel facility in California.
The convenience store retail business is the largest 7-Eleven licensee in the United States and operates approximately 300 convenience stores which also market motor fuels in central and west Texas and New Mexico.
Position Overview
The Operational Excellence Director must be skilled in assessing and comprehending issues at the root level in order to develop meaningful and sustainable solutions. This individual must be skilled in working and effectively communicating at all levels of the organization. They must demonstrate executive courage in order to hold tough discussions in a professional manner about tough decisions that are so often required in order to achieve meaningful, objective change. This individual must have solid understanding of the many tools and methodologies from issue assessment through solution development and sustainable implementation.
This individual should have solid knowledge and capabilities in the following areas in order to achieve the goals of the company:
• Organizational effectiveness / development, strategic planning and process improvement
• Performance measurements, developing and tracking appropriate key performance indicators where needed
• Serving as a change agent, coach, educator and/or facilitator within the company
• Supporting internal clients in a shared services type organizations, such as: Human Resources; Training & Development; Information Technology; Finance; Health, Safety & Environmental Services; Economics and Planning; etc.
• Have a deep understanding of managing the human behavioral aspects of achieving any change.
List of Major Duties and Responsibilities
The Operational Excellence Director will work closely with executive leadership and managerial leadership at all levels of the organization to assess / diagnose operational processes, identify and prioritize gaps in business performance, develop and implement solutions often applying Lean Six Sigma tools and techniques, executes change, and train our personnel to apply and use new tools to achieve sustainable success.
• Express operational solutions and their financial implications, represented in prioritized, execution roadmaps.
• Lead project execution teams in operations analysis, storyboarding and report outs, project implementation and facilitation.
• Ensures that all changes in addition to delivering high-impact, tangible results are pursued in a manner that is consistent with attainment of the company strategy and aligned with it values for safety and respect for company personnel.
• Support the development of other personnel within the company to serve as internal consulting support at the local level / functional level in order to capture more opportunities on a broader scale and to further develop intellectual properties and foster the sharing of best practices. Mentors, supervises, and evaluates the owners of the practices for each facility.
• Assess and improve current practices such as Process Safety Management, the Reliability Asset Management System, RAMS, the Operations Excellence Initiative, and Mechanical Integrity Programs to ensure standardization and continuous improvement.
• Work with each site Training Department to ensure and maintain an ongoing training program for each practice to train new employees and communicate changes and improvements to new employees.
• Interface with industry contacts and consulting firms to ensure the best practices are in place for the Delek Refining Subsidiaries consistent with top performing peers.
• Interface with the technology department to ensure the technology in use supports the practices. He/she will strive to incorporate technology as a tool used to efficiently execute practices.
• Executes kick-off meetings to introduce new practices or improvements to existing practices across all refineries when applicable.
• Ensures effective and timely communications between the sites to facilitate on going improvement.
• Develops and submits weekly progress reports as required.
• Performs other duties as necessary and as requested by management.
Education Required: BS Engineering
Knowledge, Skills, Abilities and Attributes:
Refinery Experience (10+ years)
Experience with Six Sigma, Kaizen methodology. Lean Six Sigma instructor
Project Management – strategic planning, business development, strategy creation, and implementation
Quality engineering, SPC, benchmarking, DMAIC process
Possess excellent interpersonal skills with the ability to positively represent Delek to outside firms and companies
