Position Summary
As the Director, Category Manager you will be responsible for the assigned specific strategic, merchandise categories and you will have the full scope of responsibility for attaining budgeted sales, gross margin, and building market share within the business portfolio. This will include full P&L responsibility for attaining budgeted Sales, Contribution Margin and GMROI. You will develop annual category business plans for 1 and 3 years out as well as category strategic plans for weekly, seasonal and annual merchandising programs.
You will maintain competitive analysis, including store and market visits. In this role you will also:
-Maintain positive trade relations and develop strategic alliances
-Develop seasonally relevant programs
-Review product presentations from the manufacturers and vendors and negotiate with them for best strategic metrics
As the Director, Category Manager you will operate within the Merchandising area and may lead a team that could include an Assistant Category Manager and a Merchandising Analyst as well as collaborate closely with cross-functional teams including Financial Planning, Pricing, Promotional Planning, Marketing, Inventory, Store Operations, Field Merchandising, Category Planogram Designers, Product Development and Import Sourcing team as it relates to the category strategic plans. In this role you will be responsible for searching out new, competitive opportunities at CVS within your assigned categories and driving the business to ensure an industry leading position for CVS.
Required Qualifications
-6 or more years of experience in an analytical, merchandising and/or buying capacity with some management experience
-Must be willing and able to travel at least 10-20% Travel will include Asia.
Preferred Qualifications
-Corporate retail merchandising and/or buying experience
-Experience managing a retail Profit and Loss (P&L)
-Technical experience should include MS Office, Word, Excel, PowerPoint, knowledge of market data (Nielsen/IRI), Access or other data base knowledge is beneficial
-Demonstrated working experience in Marketing Strategies, vendor and product negotiations, item and promotional pricing along with item selection
-Strong communication (written and oral) and presentation skills
Education
Bachelor's Degree in Business, Finance, Merchandising or related field or 10+years of Category Manager experience
Masters Degree is preferred
