Coborn’s, Inc. is seeking a powerhouse Produce and Floral leader. This individual will serve as a leader, motivator and expert relative to procuring and merchandising top-tier produce and floral. They will enthusiastically design merchandising strategies that celebrate our commitment to local sourcing, unique and specialty items, and beyond. Responsibilities
The Director of Produce and Floral Merchandising for Coborn's, Inc., is responsible for achieving desired sales, gross profit and CTO results. This position is responsible for aggressively leading innovation in the produce and floral departments to create a shopping experience that reflects each retail divisions’ unique brand promises while consistently reflecting the company’s overall vision of inspiring happiness, healthy living and simplicity for each of our guests. This position is responsible for building and maintaining strong relationships with vendors and suppliers. This position is responsible for providing direct supervision to the Produce and Floral Category Management and Merchandising Specialist teams. This position is responsible for building and maintaining strong relationships and indirect supervision to department managers.
• Achieve desired sales, gross profit and CTO results.
• Develop business plans that ensure sales are properly measured and that budgets will be met.
• Develop and execute produce and floral promotional calendars to ensure merchandising plans meet guest’s needs and demands throughout the year.
• Lead produce and floral merchandising strategies and standards that reflect each retail division’s brand promise.
• Provide leadership, coaching, and direction in the ongoing execution of produce and floral merchandising plans, as well as development and implementation of talent, policies, processes, and systems.
• Guide staffing and hiring decisions among Produce and Floral to meet the department and organization goals and engage department talent in reaching maximum potential and development.
• Develop and maintain positive relationships with suppliers and vendors to foster collaboration and achievement of common goals, achieve competitive cost of goods, pursue innovation and drive guest satisfaction.
• Develop and maintain positive relationships with store directors and department managers to foster collaboration and earn support of initiatives, which will help achieve common goals.
Qualifications
The ideal candidate for the Director of Produce and Floral Merchandising position:
• is an enthusiastic and confident change agent who has excellent leadership, communication, and relationship building skills;
• has a wide range of skills from high-level thinking to tactical category development;
• has experience developing strong teams of employees, with the ability to lead, motivate, and hold accountable as necessary;
• understands the demands of employees, who work in retail – has either walked in their shoes or made an effort to get to know the daily demands and dynamics of their role;
• is excited about the opportunity to be a change-agent, knowing it’ll require hands-on work, a team effort and long hours at times;
• has proven experience developing and implementing project plans – can drive culture enhancements throughout produce and floral departments across the organization;
• must have strong produce and floral category management skills as well as a strong business acumen;
is familiar with the markets where Coborn’s, Inc. operates stores;
• has worked for an independent grocery retailer and understands the need to multi-task and wear multiple hats;
• is self-motivated and possesses excellent organization, planning, and time management skills, and is able to multi-task across multiple projects with varying deadlines.
Bachelor's degree (B.A.) from four-year College or university; or five to seven years related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience. Must possess a current state driver’s license and valid insurance with the ability to travel to business locations as needed.
