POSITION PURPOSE:
Reporting to the SVP, Information Technology, the Vice President of Application Development will be a visionary executive and a change agent. He/she will be responsible for providing strategic leadership and driving operating plans in support and alignment with the company’s business strategies and objectives. The position supports the SVP in developing an IT strategy for consistent technology platforms, processes and procedures. The Vice President identifies emerging business and IT trends and assures the company is leveraging opportunities to increase efficiency, reduce costs and drive value. The Vice President supports the team in engaging the business to identify new required functionality, develop compelling business cases, prioritizing projects and developing plans that maximize return on investment for the company. He/she will have experience with leveraging legacy and new technologies to drive innovative solution delivery in support of the emerging business needs. The position works directly with all other IT department heads to assure departmental alignment with all achievement of IT department objectives.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS AND BASIC DUTIES:
• Establishes the IT application strategy to achieve business objectives including annual capital plan, application enhancements and new application selection.
• Develops annual planning calendar with IT department heads to assure alignment, staffing and deployment plans are in place.
• Establishes and achieves annual department budgets including administrative, capital projects and application maintenance. Identifies areas for increased efficiency including organization reporting structure.
• Manages application vendor relationship. Conducts annual reviews with major strategic vendors for future direction, functionality and release strategies.
• Develops processes and procedures within and across Application Development team that leverages talent and team member contributions. Evaluates team member’s performance and coach’s team members to excel, partner and work together to accomplish department goals.
• Assures low cost of ownership of applications through vendor negotiations and benchmarking. Ensures applications are current with patches and versions. Develops migration strategy.
• Ensures 24/7 support to resolve user and system problem tickets within established parameters.
• All capital projects delivered on time, on budget, with business functionality needs. Ensures project plans are complete from initiation through deployment. Ensures business develops training and deployment plan to deliver benefits.
• Develops staff to assure management and technical skill sets are current. Assures a succession plan is in place and identifies development opportunities for future leadership.
• Prioritizes projects and service requests with business leads to assure expectations are met and IS team is positioned to deliver.
• Assures all IT compliance and SOX standards are met including Project Life cycle and Quality Assurance.
• Complies with company audit cycle and assures all audit points are closed.
• Ensures staff is aligned to support and deliver all IT department projects.
• Proactively engages with business leadership to understand their objectives leading to development of execution plan for team(s) to deliver on the strategic initiatives.
• Supports staff in solving non-routine or complex Software issues by providing technical advice to operational departments as needed.
• Develops, implements and monitors software development policies and controls to ensure data accuracy, security, and legal and regulatory compliance
• Manages the development, implementation, installation, functional systems for the organization. Negotiates and contracts with vendors to procure resources and technology solutions to meet the strategic objectives of the department.
• Prepares software development status reports and keeps management, clients and others informed of projects status and related issues.
• Develops professional growth plan for the team through seminars, publications, trainings, conferences etc.
• Provides second tier administrative management support.

EDUCATION/CERTIFICATION:
• Bachelor of Science in Information Technology or Business Administration or the equivalent in related experience
• Advanced degree preferred
REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE:
• Knowledge of IT the industry trends and strategies for development of applications to support business requirements
EXPERIENCE REQUIRED:
• 15 or more years’ leadership experience strategic design, development of IT Application Development function for a large, national company
• 5 or more years’ experience leading IT functions within food distribution industry
• 5 or more years’ experience leading national teams with distributed presence – travel will be required.
