POSITION SUMMARY
The Director of Pricing Strategy and Analytics at Shopko develops, maintains, and manages pricing strategies and tactics that maximize sales and margin, seeking opportunities for margin growth and the prevention of margin leakage. Support for strategic initiatives such as: establishing pricing for new markets, new formats, store clusters or zones, Shopko.com and more.
DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES
Develop, Maintain and Manage Pricing Strategies
• Design pricing process, establishing routine business rhythms to discuss and approve price recommendations,
• Develop detailed knowledge of Shopko’s customer shopping behaviors, merchandising strategies and all levels of the hierarchy (e.g. category and item), and key business drivers as input to pricing strategy
• Demonstrate deep understanding of merchandising financial levers including sales, markdowns, inventory turns, vendor funding, and profitability as input to pricing strategy
• Leverage internal and external data to generate insights and attributes to identify incremental opportunities to drive value through store pricing
• Continually evaluate competitors and marketplace dynamics (including identifying new partnerships and sources of competitive intelligence) to assess the impact on Shopko’s business and develop pricing strategy recommendations
• Perform analytics that establishes the optimal regular price, weekly promo price (both in-store and circular), and markdown cadence and exit pricing
• Develop recommendations for ad items and pricing to help drive customer traffic and generate incremental sales and margin that is in-line with category strategies and intents
Support Strategic Initiatives
• Evaluate and recommend new technologies, marketing communications, store execution, etc. to achieve company financial objectives
• Establish procedures to conduct scenario analysis on changing consumer behaviors and market trends based on POS data to anticipate risks or areas of opportunity
• Leverage and evolve the current price monitoring and reporting processes and templates to: (1) present analyses and recommendations to merchandising leadership; (2) facilitate conversations with category managers and the merchandising teams
• Evolve current processes and procedures to test pricing hypotheses, measure results, and develop pricing strategy insights and implications
Leadership
• Establish, lead, and develop a pricing center of excellence
• Build and lead pricing team through training, coaching/mentoring, and development opportunities
• Provide leadership to the organization through communication of pricing trends.
• Partner with VPs and Category Managers to understand business initiatives, shifts in strategies or market place conditions to evaluate pricing implications and devise a path forward
Financial Accountability
• Recommend and implement necessary systems/process changes to achieve Shopko’s financial objectives
• Track key business metrics (e.g. margin, sales, market share, price / value perception, customer attributes, category roles / intent, etc.) to continually evaluate and refine pricing strategies to achieve Shopko’s financial objectives.
MINIMUM KNOWLEDGE, EXPERIENCE & SKILLS REQUIREMENTS
• Bachelor’s degree in Finance, Economics, Engineering, Management Science, or Mathematics required, master’s degree (e.g. MBA) preferred
• 8-10+ years of experience in project leadership, business analysis, and strategy development in a retail, consulting, or consumer-packaged goods
• Proven experience establishing and leading teams centered on analytics and the synthesis of data into clear, concise messages
• Strong project leadership skills, with the ability to prioritize and deliver on multiple concurrent initiatives that have significant financial impact
• Strong people management and coaching skills to help drive innovation and growth both direct reports and indirect stakeholders and teams
• Demonstrated ability to synthesize facts into insights; provide clear and concise communications with concrete, actionable recommendations
• Outstanding written and verbal communications skills. with the ability to provide structured thoughts to all levels of the organization
• Advanced Excel and Powerpoint skills required
• Ability to design queries and use of Microstrategy a plus
