Bed, Bath & Beyond is seeking a seasoned Director of DevOps and Production Support. This is a technical leadership position responsible for leading BBBY’s Data Warehouse & BI DevOps and Production Support team. The role will need a technical leader who is both hands-on and can lead teams in a large and highly complex technology environment comprising of a large scale multi-terabyte Data warehouse spanning Merchandising, Financial, Store Operations, and other business areas. He/She will evangelize the DevOps methodology by communication, collaboration with cross functional teams, integration, and automation.
The successful candidate will have a passion for monitoring, automation and optimization of large scale retail Data Warehouse & BI environment. This position will ensure that DW & BI production application jobs and processes are working seamlessly according to established service level agreements. He/she will be accountable for managing the on/off shore teams, allocating and monitoring work assignments, training and coaching of staff. Strong interpersonal, written and communications skills is a must. This position will report to VP, Data Warehouse & BI.
Job Duties
• Ensure appropriate on-call support for 24/7 DW & BI production application jobs. Meet established Service Level Agreements (SLAs) .
• Primary point of contact for other teams and organizations for data integration and DW & BI application availability jobs.
• Lead and manage a team of production support engineers, including off-shore resources both internal as well as from 3rd party vendors
• Manage Incidents and Problems – Triaging, logging, prioritizing, tracking, communicating and resolving, from beginning to end, the resolution of all incoming support requests.
• Lead problem analysis and root cause analysis on key issues
• Coordinate incident response across multiple cross-functional teams, including third party vendors
• Timely communication of status updates regarding availability and related issues, if any to IT management and business partners
• Production of Root Cause Analysis reports for all Severity 1 incidents
• Continuous deployment of new production jobs and applications in collaboration with other teams. Ensure change management processes are followed through related environments
• Identify opportunities for automation and optimization and build it into the deployment cycle to improve quality, productivity and efficiency
• Collaborate with corresponding cross functional teams for issues/requests requiring code changes or support with appropriate priority
• Build and maintain a knowledge base for easy reference in future.
Requirements:
• 15+ years of overall IT/Engineering experience with 5 years or more managing DevOps/ Production Support or Engineering/Development teams for an Enterprise Data Warehouse (EDW) in a business critical 24/7 environment. Experience in Retail EDW a plus.
• Customer and service focus to provide high quality Production Support user experience
• Must possess superior people management and leadership skills and motivate team in a fast-paced environment.
• Ability to work in a large organization in collaboration across multiple teams
• Full life cycle experience in Data Warehousing – Data Integration, Data Quality, Data Security, and BI tools. Must be familiar with various EDW ETL/ELT and architectural principles of data integration and data warehousing.
• Experience and knowledge in the technology suite: Teradata, Hadoop, Abinitio or other ETL tools, UNIX, Shell Scripting, Tivoli or other Scheduling tool
• Experience with TIBCO, Python or DevOps tools in Linux environment a plus
• Strong analytical and problem solving skills
• Strong SQL skills
• Excellent verbal and written communication skills, must be to communicate effectively across all levels in a clear, precise manner and provide accurate updates
• Strong interpersonal skills
• Ability to effectively manage multiple tasks of varying complexities
• Ability to work well under pressure
Education
Bachelor's degree in Computer Science or equivalent engineering degree with 10 or more years of related work experience
