Job Description
Position Summary:
The Director of Visual Merchandising is responsible for leading the initiative to significantly improve space productivity across the entire organization. This individual will build constructive and effective relationships and partnerships throughout the organization to align support of merchandise presentation and corporate initiatives, acting as a key strategic partner to Buying, Sales Promotion, Marketing, Construction, Procurement, and Retail Operations to develop compelling visual merchandising strategies.
The role is responsible for the development, refinement, management and execution of display and flow guides. The role is also responsible for the development, refinement, management and execution of floor plan layouts. This individual ensures that the appropriate processes are in place to ensure these areas meet their productivity and quality requirements. This individual will continuously review current programs and visual support tools that are offered to the field to look for opportunities for improvement and further development/refinement.
The role is also responsible for cross functional coordination of all merchandising and corporate initiatives that impact store design and layout. This individual is responsible for leading the design, creation, testing and rollout of strategic growth initiatives relating to format in stores. This includes initiatives that cross categories, multiple organizational functions, and change fixtures, layouts, signage, or environment in our stores. The role will work in close partnership with company leadership to evaluate and test new growth opportunities and cross-functional strategic initiatives.
Responsibilities:
• Partner with Merchant, Replenishment and Store teams to develop comprehensive category display guidance, in a user-friendly format for store execution, based on the product assortment, space allocation and inventory allocations.
• Partner with Merchants and Store Planning on all facets of New & Remodel store functions, especially development of store layouts in a user-friendly format for store execution.
• Develop specific store and departmental space allocations and adjacencies that maximize consumer appeal and contribute to sales objectives
• Lead the space planning initiative to drive significant improvements in space productivity.
• Partner with Store Operations, Merchandising, Marketing, Supply Chain, Store Development and other groups to drive specific cross-functional initiatives that impact the customer in-store experience.
• Identify, recruit and develop talent for growth and advancement within the organization.
• Provide input to overall in-store branding and consumer experience, including the design and placement of fixtures, layouts and graphics/signage to drive sales and customer satisfaction.
• Partner in the development of new prototypes and concepts to address specific customer needs and opportunities
• Provide input into the pace and scope and ROI of store remodel or renovation programs.
• Other duties as assigned.
Qualifications:
Education: Bachelor's degree required. MBA or other graduate work is a plus. Open to all majors although Design, Strategy, Marketing, Economics/Finance or other quantitative field is a plus.
Experience: A minimum of 7-10 years full-time work experience in a retail role with corporate-wide scope/perspective, ideally in a Merchandising, Marketing or Strategy function. Ideally 5 plus years’ experience in a supervisory capacity.
