Candidate Profile
The ideal candidate will have the ability to be a big-picture, strategic thinker with the willingness to roll-up sleeves and execute. The candidate will operate with a sense of urgency and will have the proven ability to work across diverse lines of an expanding global organization. It is essential that the successful candidate has strong communication and leadership skills, a well-rounded tax background, strong management experience, hands-on accounting experience and a desire to problem solve in a non-routine, dynamic environment.
Specific Responsibilities
• Lead a tax team via mentorship and continuous development, fostering a culture of constant improvement and progress.
• Lead and direct relationships with external consulting firms to manage the company's outsourced indirect tax and state & local direct tax compliance, ensuring compliance with all such required tax return filings.
• Lead and direct relationships with external law and consulting firms to plan, implement and execute our tax strategies.
• Advise the company on the relevant SALT implications of our international and domestic operations and recommended courses of action.
• Provide expertise on evolving tax structures to optimally support company's expected growth.
• Oversee implementation and maintenance of domestic transfer pricing strategies.
• Partner with various leaders across the company to develop and implement tax strategies, as necessary.
• Identify, analyze and implement other tax planning opportunities or ways to mitigate tax risks.
• Manage activities including review of accounts, tax returns, ruling requests and any other interaction with tax advisors and tax authorities.
• Provide the necessary audit support for any relevant examination by tax authorities.
• Oversee the resolution of any tax issues related to acquisitions, restructuring or tax audits.
• Monitor and analyze tax cases, regulations and laws in order to convey to management information regarding technical developments and their application to relevant SALT issues and their financial statement impact, if any.
• Prepare and present tax updates for presentation to upper management, as requested. Review and approve monthly use tax accruals, journal entries, account reconciliations and related supporting documentation.
REQUIREMENTS AND QUALIFICATIONS
• Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance or Taxation required
• Master's degree and/or JD preferred
• CPA and Big 4 tax experience required
• Minimum of 10 years of progressive tax experience (with a blend of public accounting and public multinational retail experience a plus)
• Strong technical knowledge of SALT and accounting, SEC rules and requirements and knowledge of indirect tax compliance in the U.S. (i.e., sales & use tax) and other countries (e.g. GST/VAT)
• Strong working knowledge of U.S. combined and separate-state tax returns and ASC 740
• Experience in interacting with auditors, audit defense and tax appeals
• Strong analytical and problem-solving skills
• Managerial experience required
• Track record of driving organizational change and improving functions
• Ability to respond to, prioritize effectively and meet deadlines while maintaining the highest of standards of completeness and accuracy
• Effective and decisive under pressure
• Strong planning, research, communication (written and verbal) and presentation skills
• Strong excel, word and power point skills and strong sense of business ethics, integrity and discretion
