Audio Producer
The Arizona Republic/azcentral.com, a 2018 Pulitzer Prize winner and part of the USA TODAY NETWORK,is seeking an Audio Producer to join our team. The audio team at The Arizona Republic and azcentral.com is a creative, passionate team. Our mission is to connect with new audiences through audio storytelling, keeping our community in metro Phoenix engaged and informed. The audio team was assembled in mid-2018 to focus on developing audio programming first for an Arizona audience and, in the future, for a national audience, so our ideal team member is flexible and innovative.
Our dream team member is an obsessive podcast listener; a journalist who values truth and accuracy; a skilled producer with an ear for great tape; a highly organized and detail-oriented worker; a strong, clear communicator; and a kind individual able to function well on a small, tight-knit, collaborative team.
Responsibilities:
• Helping to conceptualize new programming for Alexa, as well as weekly and series-based podcasts.
• Scripting daily Alexa flash briefings.
• Conceives, proposes and plans new episodes of The Gaggle, a weekly political talk-show style podcast in which Republic reporters break down one issue in Arizona politics. The producer will also rotate recording and audio-editing responsibilities for The Gaggle with other team members.
• Conceives, proposes and plans new episodes of Valley 101, a weekly storytelling podcast that answers one question from our audience. The producer will also rotate reporting, recording and audio-editing responsibilities for Valley 101 with other team members. The producer’s voice will narrate the episodes they report.
• Collaborate with the audio team as well as reporters and editors across the newsroom to develop, report and produce new series-based podcast programming.
Requirements:
• Bachelor's in Communications, Journalism or equivalent combination of education and experience.
• At least one year of experience in journalism (can include internships).
• Some experience in broadcast journalism, including reporting, voicing, editing, producing using microphones and recorders.
• Some reporting experience, including long-form experience.
• Ability to collaborate with an editor to guide reporting and scripting.
• Ability to handle multiple projects simultaneously.
• Willingness to travel within Arizona, possibly elsewhere.
• Understanding of journalism ethics and editorial decision-making.
• Ability to work under tight deadlines with grace.
Preferred competencies and skills:
• Spanish language fluency.
• Experience with social media platforms.
• Experience in Adobe Audition or related audio-editing software.
