Our Computer Science Publishing Team is looking for a new Publisher. The team is part of our Science, Technology and Medical Journals (STMJ) Publishing Organisation. In total, STMJ consists of approximately 660 FTEs based across the world in the UK, USA, Germany, The Netherlands, China and India. STMJ is responsible for publishing over 2000 journal titles, with new journal launches and society contract acquisitions ensuring annual growth.
As our Publisher, you will develop and maintain a portfolio of journals within the areas of pattern recognition, computer vision, human – computer interaction and graphics, in line with the strategy, plans and global objectives of STMJ. You will contribute to, and execute, a competitive growth strategy with a strong focus on quality and service to our Editors, authors and reviewers. You will build networks and trusted relationships (e.g. with Editors, Editorial Board members, authors, reviewers, key opinion leaders and societies) and develop an understanding of the communities’ needs. You are analytical and commercially aware, as well as understanding the trends in the publishing industry.
You will be part of a dedicated team of other Publishers, reporting to the Publishing Director of Computer Science. Preferably, you will be based in the USA (Philadelphia or New York).
Your responsibilities
Overall responsibility for the journal portfolio, with emphasis on developing strong relationships with Editors and Editorial Boards, content development, and innovating content formats.
Overseeing and guiding negotiation of editorial and title contracts.
Building a strong network within the communities in which the portfolio sits, and building strong networks within Elsevier.
Listening to feedback from the community and turning it into new or improved products and services.
What you should bring
• Higher education degree
• 3-4 years relevant Science/Technical/Medical publishing experience
• Strong communication skills (both verbal and written) and a team player
• Strong networking and negotiation skills
• Strategic and commercial awareness
• Proven track record of full awareness, application and remaining up to date on trends in the publishing industry
• Performance, results orientation and project management
• Creative, entrepreneurial, innovative attitude
• Financially literate, experience with planning and analysis
• Experience in working in a complex, matrix international environment
• This job requires travelling 30% of the year.
