Job Description
WTOL 11, the TEGNA owned CBS affiliate in Toledo, is looking for a Digital Content Producer, a journalist, to join our growing team. We're looking to redefine the way local news is covered and delivered, and our next ambitious Digital Content Producer should embody that mindset. The ideal candidate thrives in a fast-paced environment and loves working on news via the cutting edge of digital and social media. This position will produce original content for WTOL 11 that will reach our audience whenever and wherever they are, on whatever device they are using at the time. The candidate will also manage content produced by others, including copy editing, for our various desktop/mobile/social outlets.
The successful candidate is innovative with strong social media experience combined with solid news judgment. Qualified candidates will have experience posting stories to digital-mobile-social platforms, working knowledge of online CMS software, video, and photo-editing skills. The person we hire will want to win on every screen.
In this role, you will be responsible for the following duties:
• Developing, publishing and updating content for wtol.com, the WTOL app and WTOL’s social media.
• Writing and reporting original content on air to highlight social media, digital and technology news.
• Researching, creating and integrating original and repurposed content, including text, images, video and social media.
• Writing and producing breaking news stories and launching live streams for web and social platforms.
• Participating in news meetings and working with news staff to develop digital content opportunities.
• Understanding and achieving metric goals on Chartbeat, CrowdTangle and Google Analytics.
Job Requirements
The successful candidate will meet or exceed the following requirements:
• College degree in journalism, electronic media, mass communications, marketing or the like.
• At least one year of professional digital content production experience preferred.
• Solid digital news background with experience covering breaking news.
• Demonstrated ability to reach the audience with engaging headlines and social media posts.
• Strong understanding of AP Style, including ability to rapidly edit and/or rewrite stories.
• Highly-motivated individual with creative and aggressive approach to driving digital results.
• Ability to work independently and multi-task confidently under tight deadlines.
• Experience appearing on air as a news or digital reporter is a plus.
• Experience working with a digital content management system is a plus.
• Experience with editing in Photoshop and Final Cut preferred.
• Ability to work a flexible schedule, including early mornings, nights, weekends and holiday shifts is a must.
