Director of Content
KVVU FOX 5, a Meredith Corporation TV station,
is seeking a Director of Content to manage the staff of the newsroom's Content Center and the daily flow of news to the newsroom for appropriate coverage both on-air and on the station's digital platforms.
The DOC gathers meaningful news information from various sources, builds the daily agenda for coverage and amends it throughout the day as developments dictate. This person also creates reliable relationships with public information officers of various agencies. They also generate story idea, discern credible news tips, oversee special projects for the News Department, schedule news crews and take in live feeds.
The DOC is also responsible for guiding members of the news team in producing online content, maintaining the station's social media offerings and identifying opportunities that will maximize viewer experience via layout, enhanced coverage elements and interactive content.
The DOC should have solid news judgment, a sound grasp of online journalism, a sense of urgency for breaking news and the ability to build rapport.
This is a high-pressure, deadline-focused position, which requires a self-starter, who is flexible and has the ability to multitask.
Essential Job Functions
Accountabilities, Actions and Expected Measurable Results
40% -Managing the activities of the Content Center team, reporters and photographers, including skill development, daily planning and maintaining schedules.
20% -Answering phones, discerning news tips, gathering information and dispensing that information to the newsroom.
20% -Posting content, including stories, videos and pictures to the station's digital platforms.
10% -Establishing reliable relationships with public information officers at various agencies.
10% -Maintaining story files.
Minimum Qualifications and Job Requirements
All must be met to be considered.
Education: Bachelor's degree in broadcast journalism or related field, or equivalent training and/or experience.
Experience: Three to five years in a major market newsroom. Experience using a content management system (CMS). Previous management experience is preferred.
Specific Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
Strong editorial skills and working knowledge of AP Style. Knowledge of content management systems (CMSs), HTML, CSS, Adobe Photoshop, Dreamweaver, Avid and iNews are preferred.
% Travel Required (Approximate): 20%
