Job Description
Role Summary
The Marketing Communications Manager oversees the publicity, media relations, special event planning, social media content, crisis communications and community relations efforts for Six Flags Discovery Kingdom and, Six Flags Hurricane Harbor-Concord.
Key Duties and Responsibilities
P Develop and execute a strategic public relations plan
P Prepare news releases, digital press kits, publicity programs and provide information in response to media inquiries
P Oversee the parks organic social media messaging and work with the Marketing Manager to develop and deliver consistent, integrated messaging across all platforms of organic and paid social media
P Direct and execute public relations strategy for all new ride openings, special events and other marketing programs
P Serve as the official spokesperson for all parks and be on-call 24-7
P Oversee and manage park websites by maintaining a consistent message and accuracy of information
P Manage, in conjunction with the Marketing Manager, the Six Flags App for all parks
P Manage all sources of public information, including rack brochures, park maps and guides
P Develop and maintain crisis management strategies and annual crisis management training
P Initiate, develop and maintain close contacts with representatives of the news media in the Northern California market, in addition to at least eight other outer markets
P Travel to outer markets, corporate events and other special destinations
P Guide media photographers, video production crews and other special news/publicity staff when on-site at the park
P Maintain photo and video archive and track news clips on a bi-weekly basis, including a corporate quarterly report
P Develop and arrange press previews and conferences
P Assist in development of all marketing communications and work with park management to achieve overall park objectives
P Oversee community relations programs including organizing and executing charitable events, and establishing relationships with community, philanthropic and special interest groups
P Monitor brand attributes for consistent messaging in all areas of park communications: internal and external
P Establish and oversee annual communications department budget and monthly forecasts
P Other duties as assigned
ORGANIZATIONAL RELATIONSHIPS
P Reports to the Director of Marketing and Sales
P Oversees PR efforts for Six Flags Discovery Kingdom and Six Flags, Hurricane Harbor Concord
P Manages an internal, seasonal intern
SKILLS AND QUALIFICATIONS
P BA or BS degree in Marketing, Public Relations, Communications, Journalism or related field
P Minimum of five (5) years of PR, Media Relations or Marketing experience preferred
P Excellent strategic and creative thinking capabilities, along with crisis management experience; special events administrative/development experience a plus
P Excellent verbal and written communication skills, along with digital editing skills required
P Ability to make personal appearances, deliver presentations and speak to groups in casual and formal settings
P Media relations experience in Northern California with an emphasis in the San Francisco and Sacramento DMAs
P Theme park, entertainment or tourism related experience preferred, but not required
P Proven ability to develop and maintain professional relationships with media and the community
P Technical proficiency with Microsoft Office, PowerPoint, Photoshop (basic), HTML (basic) and social media outlets
P Ability to learn various proprietary software systems used within the company to manage expenses, track personnel schedules and others as needed
P Love and compassion for animals
P Willingness to be "on call" -- work weekends, evenings, and holidays as needed during the park operating calendar
