Description
Manhattan Theatre Club (MTC), a Tony Award-winning nonprofit theatre dedicated to the production of contemporary plays and musicals, seeks a full time Manager of Special Events. MTC produces eight plays annually, on Broadway at the Samuel J. Friedman Theatre on West 47th Street and Off-Broadway at the historic New York City Center on West 55th Street.
The Manager of Special Events is a key position in MTC’s Development Department. This position leads the special events departments and oversees the planning and execution of the all MTC special events for donors and other key constituencies.
Duties include:
• Conceive and plan all MTC special events including:
o 2 major fundraising events grossing on average $2.3 million per year
o 40+ donor stewardship and cultivation events (e.g.) donor dinners and receptions
o 8 Opening Nights
o 1 annual New Year’s donor trip to London
o Staff events and other miscellaneous events
• Create and manage all event budgets, reports, and analysis.
o Meet or exceed fundraising goals
o Manage expenses
• Oversee the creation and printing of all event-related materials; identify venues; negotiate contracts; select menus; and supervise seating and ticketing.
• Manage a team of two full time event staff members (one full-time associate [directly supervises] and one rotating intern [indirectly supervises]) and supervise all staff and volunteers at events.
• Interfaces with high-net-worth donors, representatives from corporate sponsoring companies, foundations, patrons, and the senior management and staff of MTC.
Requirements:
A bachelor’s degree and at least 3-5 years development experience in a comparable institution are required. Development events management experience strongly preferred. Excellent interpersonal skills; superior organizational skills with the ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously and strong computer skills are essential. Database experience; Tessitura a plus. Knowledge of Social Tables preferred.
