Vice President, Post-Production - Sony Pictures Worldwide Acquisitions (SPWA)
The VP, Post Production will ensure complete, technical first-class delivery of all sound and picture elements to Sony Pictures Worldwide Acquisitions (SPWA) for all shows. This includes oversight of standard theatrical deliverables as well as ancillary and post theatrical (home video, streaming, etc.) delivery. This key role will also work closely with SPWA distribution, vendors, and crew to make sure shows are correctly wrapped and archived for posterity. Position will constantly assess wrap/archive procedures to maximize efficiency.
RESPONSIBILITIES:
• Ensure complete, technical first-class delivery of all sound and picture elements to SPWA from both third-party productions of long form and episodic programming, as well as from direct productions, including overseeing the uploading of materials into the studio’s digital backbone, and managing such uploads.
• Oversee the delivery out of all applicable sound and picture elements to third party (sub) distributors undertaking distribution of SPWA-controlled content.
• Arrange and/or facilitate internal screenings, test screenings and marketing screenings, including conducting run through’s, traveling to screening locations on an as-needed basis, and overseeing compliance with applicable digital protection protocols.
• Arrange for and attend QC screenings at outside vendors.
• Collaborate with all appropriate SPWA departments in order to maximize productivity, flexibility, and creativity, including providing timely updates on status of delivery and advising of any and all critical issues which require attention.
• Work with the Music and Sound departments to provide support as necessary and deliver a premium audio experience.
• Cultivate a strong relationship with Digital Operations and Marketing to eliminate redundancies and share resources.
• Create and/or vet post-production budgets for projects. The role will work closely with third party producers, SPWA physical production and/or Production Finance to ensure the budgets reflect realistic circumstances on a show by show basis. Includes for some projects cost forecasting, budgeting, and cost reporting through delivery of picture.
• Create and/or vet post-production schedules for all projects. Building and/or overseeing schedules that allow for maximum flexibility and adaptation in the face of extremely tight schedules and last-minute changes.
• Work with filmmakers and internal colleagues to hire key personnel. Includes maintaining relationships with both talent/crew and appropriate agents/managers.
• Implement post-production considerations as soon as possible in the filmmaking process.
• Involve the department in the pre-production planning of dailies/editorial structure and image workflows. Including traveling to location as necessary to supervise the implementation of such arrangements.
• Attend planning meetings to communicate all schedule contingencies and support down-stream processes like localization, dubbing, and subtitling.
• Navigate and facilitate censorship protocols, including but not limited to facilitation of MPAA ratings, international censor considerations, and TV/airline versioning.
• Maintain relationships with and managing both outside vendors (Technicolor, Deluxe, EPS, etc.) and service providers within the SPWA family (client services, etc.), and oversee the processing of vendor invoices. Develop relationships with potential new vendors so that resources are ready as needs arise.
• Supervise the inventorying and organizing of all post-production assets (AVIDs, Codex vaults, camera mags, software, etc.).
• Work with the studio to explore and execute an archive of all previous material.
REQUIREMENTS:
• At least 7-10 + years of theatrical and /or television post-production experience; the last 3-5 should be in a leadership role.
• Ability to handle a high volume of content with priorities constantly shifting and changing.
• Excellent interpersonal skills in order to interface with numerous key internal and external stakeholders.
• Highly creative and strategic; ability to generate ideas and execute against them.
• High degree of enthusiasm combined with a problem solver mentality.
• Solid oral presentation skills, executive maturity and polish.
• Strong relationship builder; works effectively at all levels of the organization.
• High influencing skills.
• Ability to manage multiple projects with competing deadlines simultaneously.
