Overview
Human Resources is all about supporting a people strategy that drives business success. This people strategy guides how we hire, on-board, develop, motivate, and retain employees, as well as how we organize our work. The Tennessee HR team of Sony Music Entertainment supports Sony Music Nashville, Provident Music Group, and Monument Records. We are a small team operating as part of a large company. There are plenty of specialties in the HR universe, and with our partners in New York, we get to touch all disciplines of HR at some level.
Because we serve top Christian and country music label groups, this is no ordinary HR job! Key functional areas include: talent management (with a particular emphasis on talent acquisition), employee engagement, conflict and problem solving, compensation, career and succession planning, organizational planning, and HR accountability for fast-paced and high-performing client teams.

Responsibilities
• Serve in a consultative role to leaders and frontline managers on all HR-related issues
◦ Coach on topics such as people management, performance improvement, employee career development, and company policies/ practices
◦ Help develop programs, policies, and procedures that support organizational culture and ensure alignment between organizational HR initiatives and business strategy
◦ Proactively partner with managers to develop strategies to improve work relationships, build morale, increase productivity and retention
◦ Advise managers regarding proposed promotions and salary changes; conduct compensation analysis in consultation with compensation staff; manage administration of some employment contracts
◦ Analyze trends and review metrics with managers to develop solutions and plan accordingly
◦ Provide guidance, planning and timelines on workforce planning and integrations
• Manage business unit recruiting efforts; source, screen, and recommend qualified candidates who can best contribute to BU success
◦ Develop effective communications with managers in order to identify job qualifications and staffing needs
◦ Develop long-term relationships with organizations and potential candidates to enhance talent pipeline
◦ Manage job requisitions, approvals, posting, and relocations (in partnership with global mobility staff)
• Partner with HR VP on talent management, organizational design, change management, as well as learning and development initiatives
• Communicate with employees, advising routinely on employee policies, performance improvement, and career development
• Manage day-to-day and more complicated employee relations issues by consulting with in-house legal counsel as appropriate, conducting investigations, and escalating issues as appropriate
• Build and maintain strong, effective, collaborative working relationships across the organization including throughout Human Resources team
• Oversee execution of programs, practices, and processes that make the strategic connection between diversity and inclusion practices with organizational success
• Lead annual compensation process for business unit, serving as key HR resource for business leaders
• Partner with business unit HR team to ensure consistent administration of HR processes and compliance with legal and audit requirements
• Gain and maintain knowledge of industry trends and competitive landscape, as well as general business knowledge and acumen
• Ensure compliance with federal, state, local and company rules and regulations by maintaining in-depth knowledge of legal requirements related to daily management; partner closely with legal department closely
• Provide leadership and guidance to HR Coordinator and give direction as needed regarding day-to-day responsibilities, in particular onboarding and off-boarding activities, ensuring company standards are met
• Give direction to Nashville-based internship program; provide guidance to HR Coordinator and ensure program meets division’s needs
• Actively participate in/take the lead on various Sony Music HR initiatives; complete special projects as assigned
Qualifications
Broad based knowledge of human resources best practices (including talent management, compensation practices, organizational design, employee relations, and performance management) typically gained through 5-8 years of experience in an operational or business partner human resources role
Experience in a large, complex organization preferred
Bachelor’s degree in Human Resources, Business Administration, Communications, Psychology, or related field preferred
Familiarity with federal and state employment laws, as well as HR Systems and reporting tools required
Experience with Microsoft Office suite
Prior experience in a creative industry (music, television, entertainment, etc.) strongly preferred
An interest in supporting distinct teams: one that expands the message and platforms of Christian music artists/songwriters and one that supports country music artists
Proven success in a role that required outstanding communication skills with ability to document, support, communicate, and present recommendation and conclusions
Both a strong general business and HR acumen
Proven experience in a role that required strict confidentiality, outstanding organizational skills, and ability to maintain composure and effectiveness in stressful situations
Proven success maintaining constructive working relationships with superiors, colleagues, and individuals inside and outside the company
Ability to travel locally (between three middle Tennessee locations) with overnight travel a few times a year
