The Director, Project Management, (DPM) is a people leader who is responsible for a team of Lead Managers with experience and skill sets in delivering print and digital production projects within a particular program or discipline. The DPM works collaboratively with Lead Production Managers to ensure that workforce needs are met and teams are created to produce high-quality product. The director ensures that team members are trained, coached, and given development opportunities and project assignments that meet professional and personal development needs as well as organizational and business needs.
PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES
• Manages People: Oversees a team of 6-8 Leads. Manages personal and career development for the lead PMs, manages workforce utilization across the department for effectiveness and efficiency.
• Manages Performance: Manages performance of team members, conducting performance reviews and regular check-ins with project teams, ensuring behavioral standards are met. Manages career development of team members, providing coaching and feedback.
• Supports professional development: Works with department head, Product, Planning, Development and Marketing University, Human Resources and Leads to ensure that the training and skills development needs of the team are met.
• Impacts Organizational Performance: Works with Senior Management Teams to enhance strategic direction. Uses functional expertise, best practice communication and leadership skills to manage complex relationships and influence positive change.
• Represents production team: Acts as a role model for the Production Management team in all aspects of the role. Advocates and participates in process improvement and positive change initiatives. Works with the production team to enhance engagement and to impart and understand Business goals.
• Focuses on results: Oversees program deliverables in conjunction with senior management and Leads. Ensures that status, risks and issues are managed and communicated and that reporting requirements are adhered to. Supports production teams to meet program goals.
Education Level and or relevant experience
Required
• Bachelor’s degree or equivalent in business or relevant discipline
• 10+ years of proven people-management experience
• 10+ years of educational publishing experience in multiple discipline areas
Preferred
• Master’s degree
• Experience developing learning solutions for the K–12 market
Knowledge and skills
(general and technical)
• Strong people-leading skills, with ability to develop, coach, and provide feedback effectively in a strong-matrix environment
• Excellent project management skills
• High level of organization; ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously and to prioritize
• Extensive experience developing interactive software for learning
• Extensive experience in application and web-based development
• Ability to lead an agile development methodology supporting multiple platform offerings when appropriate
• Extensive experience in digital and print production, including specific knowledge of the educational market requirements
• Excellent negotiation, communication, leadership, and supervisory skills
• Excellent problem-solving ability
• Ability to remain objective
