TheBoombox.com Social Media Editor (Freelance)
Summary
Townsquare Media is looking for an internet culture-savvy freelance editor to build up TheBoombox.com’s social media presence and develop its audience on social networks.
The ideal candidate must be obsessed with all things hip-hop and R&B between 1988-2008. They listen to Spotify's "Gold School" playlist nonstop, memorized all the words to Warren G.'s "Regulate," and know that "Martin" was funnier than "Seinfeld.” This person is fully immersed in web culture and is an early adopter to current trends on social media in general and within the hip-hop community. They have a proven track record of employing tactics to engage an audience on social media, and tailoring content to a specific community’s demographic and values.
The role of the Social Media Editor will be to oversee The Boombox’s Facebook, Instagram and Twitter, creating dozens of posts daily that engage the brand’s audience in a meaningful, relatable way.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
• Construct and maintain editorial calendars to keep track of relevant events in hip-hop that can be translated into social media-native editorial content
• Analyze social media content performance daily, and identify top performing and underperforming content and report to each national brand — it is your responsibility to understand which content is resonating with The Boombox’s current audience, and which content is helping to grow it.
• Listen to the social media conversation in real time on Twitter, Instagram, Facebook, Reddit and the comments sections of our brands’ posts to identify trending topics, memes and potential news angles that our brands need to take part in immediately
• Research popular internet memes and conceptualize editorial angles for trending memes that would apply to each national brand’s audience
• Design social native editorial content in the form of Instagram story/feed graphics, memes and more
• Compose witty responses to each brand’s audience’s Facebook comments and Twitter replies while maintaining brand
• Use a SMM platform (SocialFlow) to schedule and optimize all social media posts
• Continually research popular Reddit threads, Facebook Groups and Twitter discourse communities that are homes to super-fans of classic hip-hop, and work in tandem with the Social Content Strategist to develop methods to engage those outside audiences
Qualifications
• A social media expert — you know every detail about the features and capabilities of Facebook, Instagram, Twitter, and Reddit
• Proficient in Adobe Creative Suite
• Obsessed with music and web culture — a deep knowledge of hip-hop music — and who those fans are — is a necessity
• Ability to identify internet and social media trends instantly, and apply engagement tactics in the form of classic hip-hop-themed content
PLEASE NOTE: as a freelancer, you will be responsible for supplying your own equipment (i.e. personal computer), and will be responsible for dictating your own hours of work.
