Associate Editor - Automotive
You have an eye for grammar and you love to edit pieces to make them easier to digest, more fun to read, and more likely to share. You also happen to be the “car person” in your clique — that one who has a new car every other year or knows which SUV is the industry favorite. In your spare time, maybe you read auto blogs or spin a wrench. Come join our team!
Skyword is seeking an individual with 1–3 years of full-time, professional editing experience to serve as an editor servicing industry-leading automotive blogs.
The ideal candidate must be detail-oriented with meticulous copy editing skills, strong research and organizational skills, and the ability to work independently. Experience editing in the automotive field is strongly preferred. This person will be editing car reviews, auto industry trend pieces, practical information for car owners and engaging posts such as quizzes and tips and tricks. More mechanically inclined content may also be involved.
Responsibilities:
Using Skyword’s proprietary publishing platform, you will:
• Edit content produced by Skyword's freelance contributors for style, content, structure, grammar, punctuation, syntax, spelling, and search engine optimization. Ensure articles meet the assignment brief and content guidelines.
• Modify content to clarify meaning, to conform to a client’s editorial style guidelines, and to align with a client’s brand voice.
• Provide editorial feedback and revision requests to writers in order to strengthen each piece and ensure they meet the assignment brief and content guidelines
• Participate in internal brainstorming sessions when necessary to produce engaging topics for clients’ content marketing programs.
• Outside of the platform, you will:
• Be expected to communicate with the client on a limited basis, when needed. For example, if a pressing item comes through, and offering any noteworthy updates on monthly status calls with the client.
• Communicate regularly with senior editor to discuss priorities and the state of the program
What this role requires:
• Minimum of one to three years of full-time professional experience as a copy editor, line editor, developmental editor, content editor, or similar
• Bachelor’s degree in English, journalism, communications, or related field
• Experience working with remote or freelance writers
• Knowledge of AP Style
• Ability to be flexible with priorities, responsibilities, and deadlines
• Excellent communication skills and ability to effectively deliver constructive feedback to writers
• Self-starter approach to work with an eagerness to consistently meet and exceed objectives and take on more responsibility
What we would like to see:
• Experience in the automotive field
• Ability to provide feedback to and for mechanically inclined content
• Experience working in media or digital/print publications
Compensation and Benefits:
Competitive market-based salary. Medical, dental, life, and disability insurance plans; equity; 401(k) plans with employer matching contribution; three weeks paid vacation; 11 paid holidays; 10 sick days; 2 half day volunteer days; and an open, friendly work environment.
