Deputy Special Projects Editor
Atlantic Media
New York, NY, United States

Quartz seeks an editor to work on special projects, our ambitious, high-concept, award-winning journalistic features, which include a book, video series, year-round feature series, and live events.
Day to day, you’ll be responsible for a variety of duties, including project management, researching, writing, producing, and editing. On any given day, you might be tracking down a global leader for comment, maintaining a spreadsheet, and researching the drone economy in the US. On another, you might be working with a team of writers and editors to produce and edit the rollout of a big feature package and coordinating with a designer and product manager to execute the project. You will collaborate closely with journalists across the newsroom, and liaise with other Quartz departments like marketing, product, and growth.
This role will be particularly rewarding for someone who’s deeply curious about the workings of business and the global economy, and can bring their own ideas to work every day; who relishes the opportunity to be creative, and to experiment with new ways of telling stories across multiple channels in formats other than 700-word articles (for example, by using charts and photos, and the occasional well-placed GIF).
You’re well suited for this role if you bring an entrepreneurial approach to your work, and are adept at setting priorities, paying attention to detail, thinking strategically, juggling multiple projects and deadlines, and developing good relationships with a broad cross-section of the company. International experience and languages are a plus.
To apply, please send a cover letter, your resume and five samples of your writing. Qualified candidates will be asked to take an editing test.
Atlantic Media Values:
Across Atlantic Media, generally, the firm looks for two “pillar gifts” in its candidates. In all of us, these are more aspirational than actual, but they are central in our intentions.
• Force of Ideas: At the center of Atlantic Media work are the ideas within our writing. We believe that ideas – to the good and not – have consequence. Our highest work is bringing rigor, insight, intellectual honesty, to that ultimate purpose of separating the bad from the good, giving voice, argument, and flight to the latter.
• Spirit of Generosity:Atlantic Media seeks in its ranks a spirit of generosity – a natural disposition in each colleague toward service and selfless conduct. Atlantic Media writing should be cut from the same cloth – critical on the merits but informed by charity and forbearance in measuring motive and personal character.
Atlantic Media is an EOE of Minorities/Women/Vets/Disability.
Pursuant to the San Francisco Fair Chance Ordinance, we will consider for employment qualified applicants with arrest and conviction records.
