The Job:
Can you name every Taylor Swift album? Do you liberally quote Cardi B’s “I Like It"? Do you have the new Arctic Monkeys on heavy rotation? If you answered yes to any of these (though preferably all three), then you may be what we’re looking for. Entertainment Weekly is currently hiring a music writer based out of our new Los Angeles headquarters to cover the world of pop music. When we say “pop” we mean it in the broadest sense of the term –– what’s popular now in actual pop, as well as hip-hop, rock, and country. The right candidate will be both an unabashed music nerd, and have experience interviewing artists (both big and small), writing analysis and trend pieces, and crafting the occasional breaking news post.
This is a full-time position based in Los Angeles; it reports directly to EW's Music Editor.
Candidates MUST have:
• A deep love of music, apparent in previously published work
• At least three years of experience as a music writer/reporter
• Demonstrable experience interviewing mainstream artists
• A deep understanding of the music industry and its many players
Pluses:
• Familiarity with the Entertainment Weekly brand
• A developed network of music sources
• Experience in an hour-to-hour breaking entertainment news environment
Interested candidates should send the following:
• A resume
• A cover letter that explains why you'd be right for the role plus your five favorite songs of 2018
• A document or link detailing five pieces of music coverage that you’re most proud of
