Summary:
The President is responsible for the strategic, financial and operational success of Michigan.com (the Partnership) and the Detroit Free Press.The position supports and guides the interests of the Partnership, including direct oversight of JOA (Joint Operating Agreement) compliance in all matters related to The Detroit News and the Detroit-Free Press.Supervises, manages and performs all operations (other than the news and editorial operations) of the Partnership (Michigan.com, Detroit News and Detroit Free Press) involved in producing, printing, selling, marketing and distributing the Newspapers, including distribution of any content on web sites or web portals.
A key focus of the position involves driving sales performance to exceed goals and representing the community by building strategic partnerships that improve position in the market place.The President leads the team to become marketing consultantspositioned to understand our clients’ business goals and drive results by using data, intelligence, technology and expertise to build integrated solutions that are best in class in terms of performance.
The President oversees retail revenue and accounts for Michigan and directly manages a Local Sales Directors for Detroit, Lansing and Port Huron. Sales Success is accomplished through effective change leadership within a highly consolidated and matrix organizational structure, a strong customer-first focus and by having a firm understanding of the changing digital-media landscape and the opportunities and impacts on business.
The position directly oversees the VP of Marketing for the Partnership and is involved in all consumer-marketing initiatives for Partnership-related products, services and brands.Actively engages with the community, providing leadership and participating in events and general community outreach to business and community leaders to advocate and tell our story.Position works closely with the Executive Editor of the Detroit Free Press and ensures a productive and collaborative working relationship with the executive team across all departments.
The successful President hires and holds employees accountable for business results and establishes a performance-oriented world class sales culture focused on winning.In addition to the important leadership role with the Partnership, the four key responsibility areas are sales execution and leadership; market strategy and collaboration; achieving a culture of success; and community leadership and engagement.
Responsibilities:
• Provides leadership of the organization and sets the strategic vision, with a focus on sales and revenues.
• Oversees the retail revenue and accounts for Michigan.com and other Gannett Michigan properties. Directly manages a Sales Directors for Detroit key accounts, Detroit territory accounts, Lansing retail accounts, Port Huron retail accounts and Michigan recruitment revenue.
• Leads world class sales and marketing efforts to achieve company objectives.Manages core and new growth revenue streams; guides and motivates the sales team to exceed expectations.
• Leads the team to become marketing consultants positioned to understand our clients’ business goals and drive results by using data, intelligence, technology and expertise to build integrated solutions that are best in class in terms of performance.
• Employee Engagement:Hires and holds employees accountable for business results and establish a performance-oriented culture focused on winning.
• Oversees and manages all operations (other than the news and editorial operations) of the Partnership (Michigan.com, Detroit News and Detroit Free Press) involved in producing, printing, marketing, distributing, and selling advertising in and content of the Newspapers, including distribution of any content on web sites or web portals.
• Oversees directly the VP of Marketing for the Partnership, including attendance at special events as the spokesperson for the organization.Build sustainable value propositions for subscriptions and advertising revenue.
• Ensures achievement of financial objectives, including revenue, expense and operating profit.
• Works closely with the VP, Finance, to ensure compliance with the accounting and reporting obligations to the Limited Partner of the Partnership; and participates in the setting of priorities for and in the performance review of the VP, Finance.
• Fulfills purpose in serving our communities; develop consumer driven products to grow audience and engagement; build strategic partnerships that improve position in the marketplace and drives results.
