Sr Producer, Original Programming - Spectrum News LA
The Spectrum News Environment:Spectrum News is a 24-hour news network that requires employees be flexible and available to work various shifts throughout the day, including early mornings, late evenings, weekends and holidays. The network is currently focused on the morning news, which means your day will start in the middle of the night, but it also means your workday will end around noon (most days).
What we’re looking for a Sr Producer to help oversee the production of Original Programming (“OP”) shows for Spectrum Networks, primarily for “Spectrum News” and also “Spectrum SportsNet”, when needed. Primary job functions include managing and producing OP shows both in the field and in the studio, working with other producers, producer/editors, and any freelance staff to execute shows from inception to air, and assist with pre-planning and production of schedules, story ideas, booking of guests, and overall decision-making related to the content. The Sr Producer will also be expected to post-produce the shows where needed by editing the shows or working with editors on all networks. The position will also help maintain standards and efficiencies, promote collaboration between all parties and manage protocols to meet editorial goals for the network. Must be willing to work flexible schedule including weekends, nights, and holidays.
Responsibilities include but are not limited to:
• Produce Original Programming shows as assigned from conception to completion.
• Coordinate various aspects of production with original programming team including overseeing the editors and producers.
• Create and manage show & story rundowns and write scripts.
• Work with the Studio, Production, Digital Media, Social Media, Marketing, and Promo Departments to make sure the goals and objectives of OP programming are communicated throughout the networks.
• Work in the edit bay as an editor and/or with an editor to carry out the post-production process.
• Assist and/or lead content planning meetings with the OP department and Operations Department.
• Work with Coordinating Producer and staff to conceptualized & develop long form original episodic shows.
• Manage and develop content plan for shows and oversee content creation team including, but not limited to Producer, On-air Talent, and Editing functions
• Standardizes and creates efficiencies for all programming by working with Coordinating Producer to develop consistent content, feature stories/programs and shows. Also develops consistencies in assisting to maintain budgets for all the programs.
• Provide feedback and coaching to employees to help improve employee performance.
• Assist in managing other PA’s, Associate Producers, Producer/Editors, and addressing & resolving any employee concerns.
• Coordinate with graphic artists and operators in developing the graphics for the show.
• Represent the channel in a professional manner and build a community presence outside of the newscasts.

Position Requirements:
• Able to perform well under pressure, meet strict deadlines, respond quickly to changes, and be able to multi-task on multiple shows/segments at once when needed.
• Proven track record of editing and writing stories.
• Proven track record of coordinating the activities of writers, show directors, managers, and other personnel throughout the production process.
• Proven track record with research production topics using the internet, video archives, and other informational sources.
• Review recordings to ensure conformance to production and broadcast standards.
• Monitor post-production processes to ensure accurate completion of details.
• Conduct meetings with staff to discuss production progress and to ensure production objectives are attained.
• Perform administrative duties, such as preparing operational reports, distributing any necessary planning material and/or scripts and rundowns.
• Resolve personnel problems that arise during the production process by acting as liaison between dissenting parties when necessary.
• Knowledge of Los Angeles community is preferred, as well as working knowledge of LA sports teams.
• Experience with Dalet newsroom systems preferred.
• Thorough knowledge of operation and office policies and procedures. Must have ability to handle various tasks simultaneously, organize, prioritize, make decisions and work efficiently and effectively under deadlines.
Education:
• Bachelor’s degree in communications, journalism, radio/TV/Film, or related field, or equivalent work experience is a plus, but priority will be given to experience.
• 8+ years television sports/news production experience.
• Experience with non-linear editing (Adobe Premiere) required.
• Experience with Dalet newsroom systems preferred.
Travel Requirements:
• Travel depending upon project need.

Roles may require the following:
• Sitting and/or standing for extended periods of time
• Overtime may be required to meet deadlines
• Varying schedule as a result of changing production, breaking news and/or daily news coverage requirements
• Dexterity of hands, fingers to operate computer keyboard, mouse, and to handle other compute components
• Provide 24x7, 365 days per year, on-call support. May entail phone or physical presence at the facility for equipment failure or other disasters. This includes, but is not limited to equipment and power failures, loss of contracted services, storms or severe weather, and loss of staff members
• Participate in an established on-call rotation
• Ability to lift and carry up to 50 pounds at varying distances
• Local travel in company car and may require additional trips
