JOB DESCRIPTION
Responsible for gathering story information from various news sources and determining newsworthiness. Making decisions on what stories to cover and assigning/dispatching the crews. Keep news staff apprised of breaking news and changes in assignments. Make beat check calls to law enforcement and other governmental agencies. Update station social media platforms as news events warrant. Communicate with affiliates to ensure continuity in coverage. 1 year exp in TV news, including assignment desk exp.
College degree in an applicable discipline, such as broadcast journalism, required. Must be well organized and able to manage multiple projects. Must demonstrate outstanding news judgment, good news writing skills, and strong familiarity with social media. Must be able to deal effectively and professionally with people. Must be able to work well in a fast-paced environment. Coordinate coverage of special events. Overtime, holidays and varied hours required.
