Editor-in-Chief
Location: New York
The Role
The Editor-in-Chief role at Storyful sits at the heart of our company and is responsible for driving the long-term vision as well as day-to-day operations of a global, 70+ person editorial team.
The editor is a member of the executive team - reporting to the chief executive officer - and must be comfortable managing a large group, getting involved in breaking news and creating new digital initiatives, all while leading the business functions of the editorial staff. These functions include collaborating with product, sales and finance colleagues as well as the leads of other parts of the Storyful business. The role is demanding yet equally rewarding, a unique role in journalism at a well-funded, fast-growing global digital business.
The perfect candidate will have the proven ability - and the opportunity - to direct global news coverage and shape his or her staff in a way to fit a structured and mature, yet dynamic and fun environment. The editor owns their team’s budget and corresponding fiscal responsibilities, working inline with the rest of the executive team.
The position is both internally and externally facing and will require travel when relevant. The editor will work with our sales department to meet customers, will attend and speak at events as needed, and will be Storyful’s editorial liaison with the rest of News Corp’s global newsrooms. External customer partnerships will require the right candidate to have pre-existing relationships with global newsrooms, as well as the ability to forge new relationships with prospective clients.
Along with all managerial duties, the editor must have a deep background in journalism. The editor will be expected to participate in their team’s news cycle - not as a day-to-day member but as an editor with hands-on ability as and when needed.

Skills Required
• Significant prior management experience
• 7+ years newsroom background
• Strong verbal and written communication skills
• Experience working with developers, sales and other business functions
• Ability to build strong relationships with News Corp team
• Executive presence
• Excellent leadership skills and ability to collaborate effectively
Specific Responsibilities
• Craft and manage senior leadership team
• Lead global, 70+ employees
• Build long-term strategy for newsroom, as well as for working with commercial and product teams
• Travel for external events, client meetings and seeing international employees
• Work closely with executive team
• Create and manage annual fiscal budgets
• Foster relationship and work with News Corp counterparts
