Senior Benefits Consultant

The Benefits Team of Gannett’s People Division designs, implements and manages programs critical to the health, wealth and balance of the Company’s most critical resource, our employees. We currently have an opportunity for a Benefits Specialist that offers exposure to a wide range of programs in a fast-paced environment. We are looking for a self-starter with a love of learning who can balance day-to-day, hands-on responsibilities with a role in strategic, multi-year planning. This position will have a strong focus on health and wellness programs.
Main responsibilities include:
• Responsible for the ongoing delivery of benefit program as assigned, with a particular emphasis on health and wellness programs
• Work with third party vendors and consultants, coordinating service contracting and ongoing performance standards are being met
• Review various benefit programs to ensure compliance with federal/state regulations and plan documents, educate and inform People leaders and managers on legislative updates and their business impacts as they occur
• Create and coordinate employee and manager communication and education programs for employees, People colleagues and other stakeholders on benefit programs
• Maintain an external focus on best practices, regulatory requirements and the competitive environment
• Resolve and/or research complex employee benefit issues that are escalated by internal employeeservices staff, HR business partners or vendors/providers
• Partner with People Team to deliver and design the benefits section of the New Hire Orientation, MyLife@Work, etc.
• Develops and produces metrics and reporting critical to effective decision-making around benefits
• Keep abreast of legislative and regulatory activity affecting plans; maintain awareness of industry trends and practices. Performs benchmarking activity to gauge competiveness of programs as well as focus groups and surveys to measure effectiveness with employees.
• Participates in system configuration, set-up, testing and maintenance within internal HR systems as well as vendor systems. Ensures data integrity and accuracy.
• Contribute to the development, recommendation and implementation of future plan designs and assist with strategic benefits planning.
• Assist and contribute to all aspects of Open Enrollment – preparation, system testing, vendor management, communications, education, presentations and execution of plans
• Collaborate early and often
• Build open and honest relationships with peers and business clients
• Partner with People team to educate on health and welfare benefit programs and processes
Requirements:
• Bachelor’s degree and approximately 5 years of experience in Benefits, emphasis on Health benefit experience
• Strong organizational, analytical, problem solving and project management skills
• Team player
• Ability to multi-task and work on various projects simultaneously keeping them on track and providing clear status updates to management
• Ability to work in a lean, high volume, fast-paced, deadline oriented environment with minimal supervision
• Demonstrated ability to take initiative, successfully handle and prioritize multiple competing assignments and effectively manage deadlines
• Respond to employee inquires and questions that are escalated from our internal call center
• Ability to work well with various groups and individuals across the organization
• Experience in evaluating, creating and presenting program recommendations and plan information to both employees and leadership in formal and informal settings.
• Excellent verbal and written communication skills
• Technically savvy and up to date with the use of current Microsoft Office tools.
• Experience managing outside consultants
• Strong project management skills
• Ability to manage all aspects of the benefit plan or program independently
• Travel will be based on business need up to 10%
