The Director of Benefits has hands-on management of all US benefits programs including the design, implementation, management, communication, compliance, and evaluation of health & welfare, retirement, wellness, and disability plans, as well as Leaves of Absence. The Director of Benefits ensures all benefit programs meet budgetary, legal, and strategic company goals and objectives for a 900+ US population.
Responsibilities
• Manage all aspects of health & welfare and retirement plans, including strategy, administration, and compliance
• Lead the selection and ongoing management of the company’s benefit consultants, brokers, actuaries, and legal counsel
• Oversee annual benefit renewals and evaluation of program changes for each fiscal year
• Recommend strategic plan designs and annual pricing
• Participate in contract negotiations to secure best in class benefits programs; manage relationship with external Benefit Consultative Brokers and benefit plan vendors, and conduct ongoing review of industry trends and changes in legislation
• Ensure company compliance with provisions of ERISA, ACA, and other legislative requirements; coordinate preparation of regulatory filings with federal and state agencies, including IRS, DOL, PBGC and other regulatory agencies
• Monitor administration of benefit processes including benefit payments and employee hire, termination, life status events, COBRA administration, carrier feeds, etc., and respond and resolve employee benefit queries/issues while interfacing with benefit vendors and third party administrators
• Oversee administration of disability, Leaves of Absence, FMLA, Parental/Bonding leave and worker’s compensation
• Review and reconcile vendor invoices
• Evaluate and further develop policies relating to well-being; manage health and wellness programs and initiatives
• Work closely in collaboration with HR Business Partners and Payroll on areas of benefits administration and communication
• Oversee and manage Benefits Specialist
• Any other duties that can reasonably be expected of you
Experience, skills and qualifications
Essential
• Bachelor’s degree
• Minimum of 8-10 years of relevant Benefits/HR experience
• Knowledge of MS Word, Excel and PowerPoint required
• Possess strong oral and written communication skills and ability to effectively communicate and build relationships with all levels of staff
• Maintain confidentiality while working independently and as part of the HR team
• Strong organizational skills with the ability to multi-task and to complete projects within deadline
• Ability to analyze information and matters and apply sound judgment to develop resolutions
• Solid project management skills with the ability to balance and prioritize workload and multiple projects
Desirable
• CEBS certification preferred
• Experience with Ceridian a plus
