Overview
Our International Sales department is currently seeking an Associate Director to be responsible for managing the sales and marketing of HCUS titles through affiliate companies and distributors in the Closed Market, including Canada, the UK, Australia/New Zealand, South Africa, and India.
Responsibilities
• Works with affiliates to create publishing programs, including curating the strongest publishing list, securing best formats, and communicating sales expectations.
• Promotes the sales of key titles across all Closed Market territories.
• Supports the Harper360 UK and Canadian teams in all aspects of the publishing process, including scheduling, rights clearance, shipping/warehousing, sell-in, marketing, and publicity.
• Markets HCUS books in the Closed Market, including the sharing of marketing plans and assets, evaluating and developing marketing strategies, and overseeing publicity.
• Feeds back Closed Market sales and marketing info to publishers, editors and others as needed.
• Works with rights departments and publishers to clear and obtain rights, including responding to HCUK Passes emails.
• Creates sales budgets for Closed Market territories with SVP of International and Sales Dept. Finance Director.
• Manages Sales Rep in his/her sales responsibilities with the ANZ, South Africa, and Indian markets.
• Determines and secures export editions as needed for the Closed Market and works with Open Market Sales to coordinate efforts.
• Continuously re-evaluates current sales strategies and find new opportunities for sales/sales channels.
• Communicates information about books/authors to the rest of the International Sales team, as needed.
• Streamlines, improves, and financially confirms the local printing process across Closed Market territories.
• Acts as conduit for system improvements in areas like metadata, inventory control, etc.
• Works with SVP of International to provide sales projections, including for acquisition purposes.
Qualifications
• 4+ years of experience in book publishing, preferably in sales, marketing or foreign rights with a good understanding of the entire publishing process
• Ability to manage a team of sales/marketing and publicity staff
• Poise and ability to gracefully communicate across all levels of the organization
• Must be able to work late or early hours to accommodate weekly and bi-weekly conference calls with Affiliates in different time zones
• Able to travel internationally 4-6 times per year
• Highly organized, detail-oriented, and self-motivated
• Outstanding communication and relationship-building skills
• Entrepreneurial spirit; ability to work autonomously and take ownership of territory responsibilities
• Resourceful problem solver
• Tenacious and able to meet strict deadlines
• Ability to work effectively in a fast-paced and always evolving sales environment
• Capable of managing multiple projects simultaneously
• Proficiency in Microsoft Office, especially Excel and PowerPoint
