Job Summary
The CenturyLink Threat Research team is looking for an experienced data scientist with demonstrated experience using machine learning models to develop and operationalize a variety of methods to find malicious attackers, botnets, and other malicious threats on the Internet. We ingest, store, and analyze huge data sets using Big Data technologies.
We are searching for a Principal Data Scientist that has the experience and skills necessary to hit the ground running, and a desire to learn even more. If you have a passion for making the Internet a safer place, and a love of working with cutting edge technologies, this might be the job you have been looking for. Ideally, candidates will be based in the Denver Metro area.
Job Description
The Principal Data Scientist will be responsible for creating machine learning based models to identify targeted malicious activity on the Internet using huge data sets. This will include identifying what data could be useful for creating the model, creating the proper features to train the model, tuning the algorithms to find the activity being targeted, validation of the model developed, and operationalizing those models to run in production on a regular basis.
Qualified candidates have:
• A strong applied mathematics and statistics knowledge
• Experience making actionable decisions out of seemingly inconclusive data sets
• Strong knowledge of machine learning techniques and methodologies such as neural networks, random forests, anomaly detection, and unsupervised classification techniques
• Experience with relational and non-relational databases
• Strong experience with tools for managing, analyzing, and visualizing large datasets
• Programming experience with two or more of Python, Java, Scala, or R
• Creativity and persistence in locating, extracting and analyzing any and all relevant data
• Problem solving versatility: making the best decisions possible given the data quality and time available
• Strong analytical thinking and ability to quickly pick up new methods, tools and programming languages
• User level experience in a Unix-based environment
Highly qualified candidates may have:
• Strong knowledge in using security related data sets such as netflow, passive DNS, open source threat intelligence, and system log data
• Experience with Spark and other distributed computing techniques
• Experience working with petabyte sized data sets for training and scoring models
• Knowledge of networking and telecommunications
• General knowledge of information security topics such as malware distribution and behaviors, botnet activities, ransomware, and phishing.
