JOB PURPOSE:
The Agribusiness Research Intern role will provide the opportunity to learn some of the basics of how a commodity market research team functions in a commercial environment. The successful candidate will be paired with an experienced commodity market analyst to assist with data gathering and analysis, conduct research on assigned topics relevant to specific markets, and in preparing materials for clients. The role requires excellent communication skills, familiarity with the Microsoft Office Suite, an interest in fundamental commodity supply/demand analysis, and attention to detail. The intern will have daily interaction with members of the Memphis-based analytic team.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:
The Agribusiness Research Intern is expected to learn and assist with the following:
• Data ingestion into key analytic files and databases
• Analysis of data, as instructed
• Development and updating of charts and tables
• Research and reporting of findings on assigned topics
• Preparation of presentation materials
• Changes in the organization of analytic files and processes
• Other duties as assigned
SKILLS & ABILITIES:
• Ability to communicate effectively, verbally and in writing, and to work within a team environment
• Ability to follow instructions
• Strong work ethic
• Working knowledge of Excel, Word, and PowerPoint
KNOWLEDGE & QUALIFICATIONS:
• At least two years of college completed with a concentration in Agricultural Economics, Economics, or Finance
• A basic understanding of economics and statistics
• A background in some aspect of the food and agriculture sector would be a plus
• An interest in commodity markets and the forces that drive them
