We are looking for a highly-driven Director of Tax Accounting to join our Tax team. This person will be responsible for managing Airbnb’s consolidated tax reporting and domestic compliance activities, implementing global processes, supporting continuous tax process improvement efforts, planning, and various ad hoc projects. The Director of Tax Accounting will interface with senior management and various cross functional teams, including Accounting, Treasury, and FP&A.
Job Responsibilities:
• Manage all aspects of the Company’s worldwide ASC 740 income tax provision and financial statement disclosures. Explain and discuss these items with senior management and independent auditors
• Conduct analysis and documentation for FIN 48 reserves
• Ensure Company’s income tax accounting review and documentation processes and related systems are in compliance with Sarbanes-Oxley internal control requirements, driving towards a best-in-class SOX infrastructure
• Forecasting and analysis of quarterly and annual effective tax rates. Work with FP&A to improve forecasting accuracy
• Provide oversight and consultation into the design of critical tax accounting processes and technology improvement related to financial statement reporting
• Monitor and analyze tax regulatory and compliance developments, accounting pronouncements, tax law changes, and analyze/document impact to the Company
• Perform research, analysis and business support on significant transactions
• Oversee purchase accounting analysis, provide input and manage portions of tax integration of newly acquired businesses
• Manage the preparation and review of U.S. federal and state income and franchise tax returns, extensions, and estimated payments, including R&D credit study and lobbying analysis, and ensure timely and accurate submission
• Review and oversee international tax filings
• Research and execute income tax planning that considers the Company’s overall effective tax rate and is consistent with the Company’s business objectives
• Provide support on U.S. and international planning activities
• Mentor, train, and support development of tax personnel
• Provide support to the Tax team’s audit controversy efforts in generating and providing data and the required supporting financial information.
Requirements:
• 15+ years of corporate tax and tax provision experience at Big 4 and in-house. Specifically, provision experience working for fast-paced, multinational high-tech companies with international IP structures is required.
• Deep knowledge of ASC 740 and related accounting pronouncements, strong documentation skills and experience with implementing and maintaining effective internal controls
• Strong foundation of tax technical knowledge and compliance experience
• Strong analytical and organizational skills with ability to manage multiple projects and prioritize work
• Excellent oral and written communication skills and proven ability to work effectively with all levels of staff, with cross functional teams, upper management, and outside consultants
• Strong interpersonal and teamwork skills with the ability to interact with all levels of management while at the same time able to work independently to resolve tax issues
• CPA preferred, Masters in Taxation or LLM in Taxation a plus
