The Associated Press is seeking a skilled Senior Documentation Specialist for its’ Washington, DC office. This team member will create and maintain documentation and other training materials for the ENPS-suite of news production tools. You’ll join our energetic, successful team that’s responsible for supporting newsroom computer users in 900 newsrooms and 60 countries across the world. We know that documentation and associated training materials make a huge difference in the success of our product and in the continued learning by our users. This role is critically important to our success.
The successful applicant will be responsible for creating, maintaining and updating technical documents, manuals and online help, explaining the information in a clear and concise manner and working with the development and operations teams to ensure accuracy. We are actively seeking ways to provide training/user materials in non-traditional ways and value experience in creating those materials.
Responsibilities and duties include:
• Creating and maintaining updated end-user training materials and case studies for distribution in PDF and HTML formats as well as on-line videos
• Designing and managing interfaces for customer software and documentation distribution websites
• Helping validate documentation through product familiarization and testing
• Managing external language-translation resources as needed
• Working with technical and non-technical sales, support and training staff as necessary on production of related collaterals
• Innovating new communication methods to improve user experience around training and support learning
Qualifications and skills:
The successful candidate will have proven professional experience in technical writing and creation of manuals and training materials, preferably in the software technology or journalism/communication fields. The candidate must be a self-starter and problem solver. The candidate must also possess excellent written and verbal English-language communication skills and a strong attention to detail. Proficiency in MadCap Flare is strongly preferred. Experience in creating “how-to” video clips for software/technology solutions is strongly preferred. A bachelor’s degree or higher is preferred. Authorization to work in the US for any employer is mandatory.
