PYRG - Editorial Assistant, Dawson/Dial
The position reports to the publisher of Kathy Dawson Books and the Associate Publisher of Dial Books for Young Readers, providing administrative and editorial support while coordinating between authors, agents, and different departments within the division. The ideal candidate is an ambitious self-starter who is both creative and detail-oriented and can juggle multiple priorities. An enthusiasm for and knowledge of books for young readers is essential. Must be a strong writer and critical thinker who enjoys a wide range of titles for children and young adults--from literary to commercial.
Responsibilities include:
• Track, maintain grid, and evaluate agented submissions and unsolicited manuscripts
• Read and evaluate manuscripts, suggests cuts or revisions and writes reader reports.
• Prepare front matter, body text, copyright, and cover text; formats, and traffics books through all stages of production
• Draft P&Ls, contract proposals, catalog copy, and Title Information sheets
• Assist with scheduling of titles, creating spreadsheets, and list planning
• Inter-face with Library of Congress in the obtaining of CIP data and LC numbers.
• Attend and contribute ideas at editorial meetings.
• Provide computer support and training to editorial staff
• Maintain and order books for imprint bookroom
• Write jacket and catalog copy, fact sheets, blurbs and teasers
• Read review journals and competition titles to be aware of trends and competitor's lists
• Act as a liaison between authors, agents and different departments within the company
• Photo research as necessary
• Provide clerical support, including filling/trafficking forms and other paperwork; filing; handling correspondence; answering phones; mailing, etc
• Proofread and copyedit
• Assist in maintaining imprint social media presence
• Cultivate editorial sensibility & build skills necessary

• Computer skills – MS Word , Excel, Powerpoint, Outlook
• Experience in publishing (any area) helpful
