Finance Business Intelligence Intern
Houghton Mifflin Harcourt is seeking a Finance Business Intelligence Intern to be part of a team devoted to value-added services, high performance and career development. This is a hands-on role for someone who wants to gain technical and business real world experience. This position is with the Business Intelligence function of the Corporate FP&A department. It’s a great team atmosphere with frequent interaction with different business process owners and leaders.
This position provides the opportunity to build both soft and technical skillsets and experience with SAP Business Planning & Consolidation (BPC), a market leading tool used to support all operational and financial activities in an organization. SAP BPC helps in automating and streamlining business forecast, planning, and consolidation activities in an organization. This position will have a key role in the development of a new financial model within BPC to support HMH’s 2018 reporting objectives. This will be invaluable experience and a great resume builder! This position will also gain experience in key financial concepts in see how to apply those concepts using technology.
The right candidate can be either someone with a Business or Financial background that has a strong interest in technical concepts or vice versa, a technical resource who finds value in applying their knowledge in solving financial problems.
This is a paid internship and the schedule is flexible.
Responsibilities:
Business Intelligence
• Create reports and do analysis in Excel to produce deliverables that help support management and executive decision making
• Understand the importance of Decision Supports functions are to company operations
• Learn how to navigate and utilize a wide variety of systems at HMH including SAP BPC, SAP BW, MicroStrategy, SAP HANA, etc.
SAP BPC:
• Learn how companies use financial ERP systems to facilitate management/executive level reporting
• Perform SAP BPC system administration functions including: Hierarchical dimension updates, system configurations, productions support, etc.
• Assist in Testing and Implementation of financial data enhancements into BPC
• Document Standard Operating Procedures and Policies to drive efficiency and accuracy
Qualifications:
• Candidates must be in a degree program with an emphasis in finance, accounting, computer science, mathematics/statistics, or engineering related. Undergraduate and Graduate students accepted.
• Basic understanding and knowledge of accounting principles and processes.
• Knowledge of Microsoft Office, including advanced Excel skills.
• Excellent academic standing. GPA of 3.0+ is required.
• Excellent analytical and critical thinking.
• Demonstrate confidence and possess excellent oral, written, and presentation skills.
• An enthusiastic team player with good project management skills that seeks opportunities to contribute.
• Able to work 35-40 hours a week for 18 to 24 weeks.
Physical Requirements
• Might be in a stationary position for a considerable time (sitting and/or standing).
• The person in this position needs to move about inside the office to access file cabinets, office machinery, etc.
• Constantly operates a computer and other office productivity machinery, such as a calculator, copy machine, and computer printer.
• Must be able to collaborate with colleagues via face to face, conference calls, and online meetings.
