Requirements
Arguably, this role is more "team whisperer" than Project Manager...
Do you have experience as a Scrum Master, but think of yourself as more of a change agent? Have you felt a little confined or trapped within the formality of Scrum? Do you view Agile as a journey as opposed to Scrum as a destination? Does the prospect of your Scrum Master duties becoming unnecessary excite you? If so, let’s talk about how we can apply your skills, where your career is headed, and how that all fits with the opportunity here at Macmillan Learning.
Why?
This purpose of this role is pretty straightforward...you will help our product development teams improve their execution.
What?
Some key aspects of this role:
• Project management duties (milestone development/tracking, risk assessment/mitigation, etc.)
• Scrum Master duties
• Increase visibility and focus on team effectiveness through objective criteria
• Inform, sponsor, facilitate, and measure change
• Coordinate the development and execution of an “Agile practice” roadmap and strategy that aligns with business needs and realities.
Where?
Our preference is that you work from our office in downtown Austin; however, we will consider remote for the right candidate (assume travel to Austin at least 4 times/yr).
How?
You’re the expert here, you tell us!
Who?
We are looking for someone...
• With an innate desire to elevate the team, always striving for better
• Who can foster an environment characterized by high levels of accountability
• Who loves to take the initiative, actively exploring the “decision tree”
• Who has a highly-developed ability to influence without direct “authority”
• Who favors Agile principles over dogmatic process
• Who has extensive experience with structured experimentation
• Who is comfortable knowing that if they are doing their job well, and the team is improving, their individual role will change
Experience that would come in handy:
• 3+ years as Scrum master
• First-hand experience leading a Waterfall-to-Agile transformation for a software team
• Advanced knowledge of JIRA configuration, workflows, JQL
• Working with distributed/remote teams
Bonus points if you have...
• Worked for a SaaS product software company
• Personal experience in software development and/or QA
• Experience beyond Scrum
What’s in it for you?
• A great “canvas” for you to work from, with teams that are hungry for better and for your leadership to help get there
• A company mission focused on improving education outcomes
• A great deal of autonomy
• An environment rich with challenges, creating regular opportunities for you to evolve your career and expand your impact
• Full support and backing from the leadership team
