Requirements
Purpose of the Role:
The Math & Statistics Editorial Intern(s) will work as part of the Math & Statistics team to bring together cutting edge technology with solid Math & Statistics content.
Intern(s) will learn and use Agile methodology to QA new software and the content that goes into it. Interns will sit as part of an Agile team and learn to use the terminology, tools, and practices of Agile teams. This may be a significant advantage to considering and pursuing jobs in software or software development.
Interns will be part of a product beta release during summer 2018, and they will be part of the exciting world of stakeholders and negotiations to get a product to internal and external customers on time and budget. This may be a significant advantage to considering and pursuing jobs in marketing, customer support, and communication.
Interns will develop great project management skills, which can be applied to any project in life, from course loads to careers. As part of the Math/Stats team, interns will develop and use project management tools and techniques as a way to train on, prioritize, and balance multiple projects.
Interns will contribute to the future of learning management. Students are the people most affected by the products we make, and contributing to the project gives interns a voice in the student experience even while the product is being made.
An intern’s day will involve some meetings with cross-functional teams in an educational technology environment, along with small team meetings and individual work time. Interns will learn to prioritize and manage multiple projects, and they will be supported by both a direct manager and the entire team of Math & Statistics Editorial.
Responsibilities:
• "Can you break it?" Intern(s) will perform QA testing of new HTML5 homework modules and the questions they go into by trying different answers, combinations of answers, and notation to see which work and which don’t.
• Intern(s) will enter images into our image management system called Elvis and generate and track the shareable links to the uploaded images.
• Intern(s) will perform detective work on our Statistics tutorials that were recently converted. Intern(s) will figure out which videos and questions are missing or broken and try to resolve these issues.
• Intern(s) will identify and/or input metadata for learning objectives, origin, and other important details into the relevant digital tools so that all content has current metadata.
• Intern(s) will input and QA Calculus Test Bank questions into our HTML5 homework tools.
Skills/Experience Required:
• Great attention to detail.
• Ability to prioritize and work on multiple projects within the same day without losing consistency or quality.
• Problem-solving skills and the ability to read through “hows” to get to “whys”.
• At least one college-level Calculus course completed (successful completion of multiple Calculus courses preferred).
