This internship position is part of the 4 The Future program at TODAY'S TMJ4. The Digital Content Producer is tasked with enhancing content on the web site, app and social media channels in order to provide more in-depth interactive coverage. Digital interns will assist with writing news releases for digital platforms, working with broadcast reporters to translate multimedia content onto our digital channels and identify trending stories that can be re-purposed for our local audience.
Interns will occasionally be asked to go out with reporters in the field or solo, to collect exclusive web content -- both photos and videos. An emphasis will be placed on completing multimedia projects outside of the regular day-to-day news cycle in an attempt to generate traffic. Intern will also be tasked with projects in the newsroom such as building out photo galleries and interactive elements for the web site.
Interns is expected to work three-four days a week at a maximum of 27 hours a week. Desired candidate is a highly effective communicator with an additional skillset that includes effective writing, video editing, social media analysis and a voracious consumer of current events. The right candidate will be trained in the strategy behind staying attentive to live web metrics and making solid news judgments in a breaking news environment. He or she will also learn how to work effectively in a modern blended newsroom. No two days are the same. We're looking for someone who is well-versed in digital culture, eager to learn and creative.
Education & Experience/Certifications
• Enrolled at an accredited college or university
• Registered as a Junior or above and in good standing
• Receive college/university course credit for participating in this program. The amount of course credit to be earned is determined and must be verified by the college/university, prior to starting assignment.
Skills & Abilities:
• Computer/typing skills
• Experience with video editing and editing systems
• Knowledge of Associated Press Style
• Experience posting content to web sites using a CMS.
• Knowledge of SEO practices.
• Familiarity with posting to multiple social media platforms
• Ability to communicate clearly & concisely in person and on the phone
• Good organizational skills
• Computer-based research skills
• Self-motivated and able to work in a fast-paced deadline-driven environment
