Editor - RHCB/Rodale Kids
The Random House Children’s Books division is seeking an energetic, self-starter with a keen interest in health, wellness, and the environment to join the Rodale Kids imprint. The Editor will edit 10-12 titles each year (includes reissues and board/paperback reprints). This is a unique opportunity to develop a boutique imprint alongside the SVP, Publisher of the Random House Books Group within a larger publishing house. An awareness of current trends (editorial and visual) in the world of wellness, an eye toward building brands, and a results-oriented focus are a must.
Job Description:
• Acquire and edit a list of 10-12 front list titles (includes reissues & board/paperback reprints). 75% of list will be board books, picture books, and illustrated non-fiction. Other formats will include early readers, novelty, chapter books, and middle grade fiction.
• In addition to traditional acquisitions, the editor will develop IP projects for the list with an eye to building new brands.
• Identify board and novelty spin-offs from books on the small, but growing backlist.
• Responsible for all editorial aspects of book development including preparing and understanding P&Ls; negotiation; manuscript development and editing; liaison with design to provide illustration; copywriting including jacket; web copy; and other marketing copy as required.
• Cultivate relationships with agents with an eye toward acquiring for the imprint’s mission of wellness, mental health, and environmental awareness for children; seeking out books that help answer a question or convey a message for parents.
Your Profile:
• Five to seven years experience in children’s publishing or adult 4-color publishing
• Knowledge of and interest in wellness, health, etc.
• Ability to multitask and handle many projects at once
• Ability to manage title P&Ls
• Excellent organizational skills and ability to prioritize
• Strong attention to detail
• Strong communication skills, both verbal & written
• Ability to work independently and meet deadlines
