Based in Menlo Park, the Head of Consumer and Brand Marketing will report to Instagram's Global Head of Marketing (Cliff Hopkins). This person will lead the Consumer and Brand team responsible for strengthening one of the most recognizable brands in the world. The team captures the benefits of Instagram's product features and connects them with the hearts and minds of the community. The team specializes in consumer marketing and brand strategy, advertising, digital engagement, product presentation, consumer analytics, and influencers — this team will connect with the community via channels ranging from owned media, paid media on IG and beyond, to social media, partnerships, IRL events, influencers, and more. Importantly, you will define the expected outcomes for all consumer and brand programs and campaigns — making it clear what the expected impact will be on company metrics and ROI.
Success in this role means leading the team to develop breakthrough consumer/brand programs and campaigns that connect the community to our brand and products. This includes all the ways people can use Instagram to express themselves and connect with others with shared interests. And helping the community understand our commitment to fostering safe, kind communities. The right person can drive both strategy and execution, is analytical and creative, and cares deeply about Instagram's mission to strengthen relationships through shared experiences. The right person is also a visionary leader and people manager. S/he will have a successful track record of launching & scaling mass-market consumer products or services that people cannot live without for a range of consumer youth-oriented brands. S/he will have a passion for and be energized by the creative, advertising and media industry.
S/he will be highly collaborative, working effectively and efficiently with all functions, particularly product and engineering leaders. The successful candidate will be a teacher and communicator, having extensive experience in people management, coaching and mentoring.
Responsibilities
• You’ll define priorities and orchestrate work streams to ensure efficiency across all initiatives and drive brand plans, business plans and initiatives — all plans should be grounded in the impact we expect to make to company metrics and the expected ROI.
• You'll work with the Partnerships team to identify influencers whom we can partner with to drive consumer and brand strategies through relationships with key talent and industry leaders in film, sports, fashion, music, more.
• You'll work with Instagram's Executive Creative Director to refine the brand voice.
• Manage an existing brand marketing team and build out the team and cross-functional relationships.
• Demonstrate thought leadership in media and content marketing, the broader online ecosystem, and competitive landscape.
• Develop and implement outbound marketing and advertising strategies and programs to drive consumer awareness and adoption.
• Understand and effectively advocate for specific needs and sensitivities of consumers in both developed and emerging markets around the world.
• Develop, support and build a world-class marketing team by investing in and hiring people, and supporting them with the resources and infrastructure to scale.
• Tackle complex challenges with a strategic mindset and create thoughtful recommendations and action plans for solving them with product and cross-functional leadership.
• Partner closely with our Insights and Analytics Centers of Excellence to infuse data-driven decision making into all aspects of our consumer and brand functions.
Minimum Qualifications
• Bachelor's degree.
• 12+ years of demonstrated Consumer Marketing experience and Brand Planning/Brand Marketing proficiency, with responsibilities to include knowledge of Brand Design, Digital, Social, and Retail and Event Production.
• Experience on the client side at youth-oriented consumer brands.
• Knowledge in contract and budget management related to brand content creation, brand executions and product collaborations.
• Experience developing and driving operational strategy and excellence throughout the marketing process, identifying and adopting best practices to optimize performance.
• Building consumer entertainment experiences, and marketing programs.
• Knowledge of digital and mobile video and the entertainment and technology landscape both in the U.S. and internationally.
• Direct and cross-functional management experience, including demonstrated experience being a part of a leadership team.
Preferred Qualifications
• MBA.
• Demonstrated success in analytically rigorous online, and also offline marketing.
