Description
The E.W. Scripps Company, an enterprise media company, is seeking a Sr. Manager, Financial Reporting. This person is responsible for preparing the financial statements, oversees the monthly reporting process and must stay current on regulatory and legislative changes. This position is in Cincinnati, OH.
Key Activities:
• Assist in drafting financial statements and notes included in the Company's Annual and Quarterly Reports on Forms 10-K and 10-Q
• Manage the monthly and quarterly reporting process
• Review reports prior to issuance to senior management
• Manage benefit plan financial statement preparation
• Manage subsidiary financial statements preparation
• Stay abreast of and provide timely updates of regulatory and legislative changes that may affect the company's accounting policies and reporting requirements
• Conduct accounting research and draft accounting and reporting policies with respect to generally accepted accounting principles and SEC rules and regulations
• Maintain Company's Corporate Accounting Policy and Procedures Manual
• Manage projects around implementation of new accounting guidance or reporting requirements
• Assist in developing actuarial assumptions and models used in pension valuations
• Work with service providers in providing information required to value and record related transactions
• Work with valuation firms to perform year-end impairment testing
Education and Experience / Certifications:
• Bachelor's degree in Accounting and CPA required; Master's degree preferred
• 6 - 9 years accounting experience including:
◦ Design and implementation of internal control systems
◦ Public accounting experience required
• Preferred hands-on operational experience related to external reporting within a public company including preparation and /or review of required SEC filings such as the Form 10-K and Form 10-Q
• Experience working with internal controls over financial reporting/Sarbanes-Oxley related experience
Skills and Abilities:
• Proficiency with Excel and Word, knowledge of PeopleSoft preferred
• Proven analytical aptitude and the ability to seek, digest and synthesize detailed information
• Ability to work with individuals at all levels within and outside the company
• Proficient problem solving and analytical skills
• Strong communication skills, both written and verbal
• Highly motivated self-starter who takes initiative to seek information, investigate issues and identify and/or complete tasks and projects
• Proven ability to work independently with limited supervision
