Description
The E. W. Scripps Company is seeking a VP/GM, TV & Sales for their NBC affiliate WGBA - Green Bay, Wisconsin. The General Manager, TV & Sales is responsible for developing and executing strategic and operational plans that result in the growth of the station and its people. In addition to overall station oversight, this role has functional responsibility for the station's sales department and team.
Key activities
General Management
• Leads a fully functioning multi-platform media station with a primary focus on growing revenue and audience.
• Develops strategic and operational plans for the station's growth in multi-platform content delivery and revenue generation that is in alignment with the local brand.
• Provides visible leadership both inside the station and the community. Develops strong relationships with key clients and other business partners.
• Effectively communicates to department heads and all employees. Creates a collaborative, team-based environment.
• Provides training and development opportunities to team members.
• Responsible for all aspects of financial statements and ensuring station compliance with Scripps policies regarding those statements. Responsible for station operating and capital expense budgets.
• Enforces all FCC, EEO, SOX and any other appropriate rules and regulations.
• Understands and adheres to company policies, and at all times adheres to the highest ethical standards.
• Works transparently with divisional leadership and other corporate team members to improve multi-platform operations.
Sales
• Establishes the sales direction of the station. Creates and manages budgets and projects for station revenue. Sets and adjusts station rates to meet goals.
• Oversees the sale of advertising time to clients/agencies, involving local travel and national travel.
• Utilizes and maximizes air time inventory and resources to achieve revenue goals. Evaluates items and programs available to the station.
• Develops and implements new business plans, sales projects, and strategic plans for sales.
• Understands and interfaces with traffic system and personnel to efficiently manage air time inventory. Approve all orders.
• Interfaces with station's national rep firm to set goals and objectives. Holds firm accountable for the achievement of all expectations.
• Establishes local market value and position of the station. Knows the strengths and weaknesses of competing stations and mediums.
• Maintains integrity in all business dealings.
• Works with leadership team to accomplish sales objectives.
• Other duties as assigned
Education & Experience/Certifications
• BS/BA in related discipline; advanced degree preferred
• 10+ years of experience in media and/or leading a sales function; 5+ years in a senior management position preferred

• A track record of proven leadership success in team effectiveness, revenue growth, brand development, and multi-platform audience growth
• Proven ability to cultivate innovation, risk-taking and leading change.
• Effective leader that demonstrates passion and enthusiasm for the company's mission
• Able to prepare and monitor station budgets; maintain compliance with FCC rules and regulations
• Effective in a variety of formal presentation settings both inside and outside the organization
• Able to organize, motivate and supervise staff
• Strong verbal and written communication skills
• Able to establish cooperative working relationships both internally and externally.
Must be proficient with station computer systems.
