As a member of the ASD Next Team, this position will be responsible for all product marketing management aspects of new concepts and product experiences that will encompass understanding of customer needs and desires, addressable markets, customer messaging, and product introduction and sales. These products will include Bose offerings that combine aspects of both consumer and automotive products, tie in cloud based experiences where applicable, and will allow ASD to expand their product portfolio. In this role, the successful candidate will handle most marketing and market study related activities and tasks, from initial market studies for early concept and user experience ideas, testing products with consumer, formulating the customer “hype” messages and possibly even helping to create and design the customer pitch in limited, small product launches on websites like Kickstarter or IndieGoGo.
Major responsibilities/tasks:
• Manage all marketing aspects within the ASD Next team. The ASD Next team is comprised of a small technical and administrative team, and the successful candidate will be part of this team to help with several different marketing managing aspects of the concept and experience development.
• As part of the early vetting process, this role will help with the initial market study (either through internal or external data mining) to understand if the ideas and concepts could fit a need or desire and the market.
• The Product Marketing Manager will be contributing to the initial product and concept definition documentation to provide a high level understanding of the vision and market opportunity for the concept idea(s).
• During concepting and prototype development, the Product Market Manager will engage with customers (either directly or through 3rd party service providers) to gather early feedback on design direction, feature desirability, timing expectations, and possibly product cost guidance where applicable. All these efforts will be used to derive product feasibility and help facilitate early qualification/disqualification for concept and product ideas.
• Work with Research Associate within team to determine competitive forces and benchmarks, and advise development team and leadership of needed information for early go/ no-go decision
• The PMM will also define the customer “go to market” message through internal and external partner resources and should be proficient in presenting that message through various communication channels to potential customers and outlets, executive staff and internal stakeholders. The product outlets will primarily be campaign type websites like Kickstarter or IndieGoGo.
• Work closely with ASD R&D, Marketing and Sales to ensure that the technical challenges, market opportunity and customer strategies are clearly understood and executed for these types of “hybrid” products. This activity may include helping these department coordinate with their respective counterparts in other divisions.
• Develop overall strategic pricing models for assigned products and works with Technical Sales to propose the best possible pricing and negotiation strategy for each customer program/system
• Work with Strategic Marketing to develop appropriate naming and branding positioning and differentiation in alignment with pricing strategies. Looks for synergy with other Bose products and attempts to integrate technology naming conventions across all product lines and between Bose divisions.
• Work with Customer Technical Sales teams to develop appropriate OEM and consumer messages and selling propositions for assigned products based on research and insight attained from market research, competitive analysis and market intelligence. Communicate with, and assure understanding of, unique selling propositions by the Customer Management Teams.
Education/Experience:
• A BS in Marketing, Technical Marketing or Product Management is required. A technical secondary degree is a plus.
• The candidate should have 8+ years of progressive business experience in the any of the relevant areas, including market studies and interpretation of market data, strategic product management, campaign type go to market strategy, technical sales or technical account management. Candidate will be evaluated based on relevancy and breadth of experience.
• Experience in automotive electronics and related consumer electronics, is strongly preferred.
• Prefer candidates who have experience working in small innovation/start-up teams and know how to operate in a self-guided, flexible and dynamic environment.
Required Skills and Competencies:
• Attention to detail, planning and organizational skills
• Ability to work across business disciplines and functions with particular focus on product marketing as part of concept development projects.
• Strong communication skills with the ability to be able to formulate the right product messaging.
• Strong business and customer orientation with emphasis on value propositions
• Understand business case development and market sizing in early stages of concept vetting.
• Long term strategic and integrative thinking with a strong understanding of consumer market trends and how they can be relevant to automotive
• Strong brand management orientation and competence
