We are looking for a VP Product Management Search who will lead the way how we execute product management within Elsevier. In this career opportunity, you will create the vision and delivery of a world class integrated search platform. You will be accountable for working with customers and other product managers to transform the search experience for our innovative, market leading scientific research products; Scopus, Science Direct and Mendeley.
You will be responsible for embedding product management excellence in Elsevier, be a role model for developing strong relationships with key partners like technology and market, serve as a thought leader and have the ability to sway decisions of senior executives.
Transforming search will help users better navigate Elsevier core assets, enable us to link and connect data sets together, power the discoverability of a world class content set, provide a new seamless holistic user experience and consequently improve research outcomes. This is a pivotal position that will deliver real value to the business and to our end users.
This role could be based in New York or London and will report to the SVP Product Management, Shared Platforms & Capability based in New York. You will have 6 product managers directly reporting to you (remotely).

Your responsibilities will include:
Strategy
• Define and own the multi-year product innovation strategy for Search features.
• Selling ideas and concepts to Senior Management based on data and other insights
• Communicating the value proposition, key benefits and technical information to a wide range of internal and external stakeholders
• Setting priorities based on sound and consistent application of business KPOs
Optimize Search Experience
• Identify, analyze and prioritize new site features based on thorough analysis of data and customer needs.
• Translate interests and behaviors into suggestions, algorithms & tech requirements for our search tech engineers.
• Focus on the end-to-end user experience of search working closely with product managers from the different platforms, search engineers and designers.
Leadership
• Educating, motivating and leading a cross functional team (product managers, engineering ) product/portfolio vision
• Transitioning the team to agile and data driven product management
Stakeholder Management
• Responsible for understanding the business strategies and objectives of stakeholder groups, mapping them into a coherent product roadmap, and building consensus around shared objectives and priorities
• Responsible for identifying and leading discussions with select customers and external partners, bringing in key support from other stakeholders
What you should bring
•Masters in a related quantitative role or science field strongly recommended: Computer Science, Computational Linguistics, Mathematics, Computer Engineering, Economics, Physics or equivalent
•8+ years of experience with a proven track record of delivering search solutions in a product management role. Digital product management and development experience in the domain of search is a requirement
•Ability and experience in analyzing large data sets and develop insights that will improve our software and the customer experience
•Excellent communication skills, including the ability to translate complex technical solutions into terms non-technical people can understand
•Proven cross functional leadership experience is a preference
•Experience working in both highly agile environments as well as large product development efforts would be preferred
•Personality Characteristics: proactive, the ability to be a self-starter and take ownership of projects from start to finish, a strong desire to learn and use new technologies and a passion for making Search great, someone with a vision and great product intuition backed by a track record of successful outcomes combined with strong communication skills
