Job Summary
The Area Operations Manager Provides daily oversight and manages 12-18 direct reports in the assigned geographical area. This position is responsible for National Network ethernet services in a local market as well as Long Haul network services in a given geographical area.
Job Description
• Establishing operational objectives and work plans.
• Provides superior leadership, including the ability to identify key business drivers, influencing others to ensure all installation and maintenance functions are performed to meet and exceed customer expectations and company objectives.
• Budget development and accountability for the designated area of responsibility, as well as for the direct leadership and development of a team of field technicians.
• Manages the operations of a specified geographical area, this includes but is not limited to the management of all field technical employees.
• The position is responsible for ensuring that installation and maintenance service levels are maintained, the operating and equipment budget is created and administered, and product sales are maintained.
• The incumbent has contact with all division departments to coordinate input and completion of projects; keep an open line of communications and resolve employee relation's issues, and to deal with any other matters that need attention. Additionally, contact with customers and outside contractors to answer questions and resolve problems;
• Managing multiple activities in a rapidly changing technological environment, at the same time,
• Must work within the framework of the overall operation by blending department responsibilities into an efficient, effective result.
• Work experience that demonstrates the ability to plan, organize and schedule multiple projects and staff to accommodate rapidly changing priorities and deadlines.
Qualifications
• Bachelors degree or equivalent education and experience. Typically with 5-7 years related experience and 1+ year previous supervisory / leadership experience preferred.
• Minimum 7-9 years experience in the Telecommunications industry: working with processes such as repair center operations, dispatch operations, central office operations, outside plant activities and business service delivery or the equivalent in training and experience.
• Demonstrated ability to develop and execute short- and long-term objectives in a team environment.
• Proven strong oral and written communication skills and ability to successfully deliver presentations to executive level
• Possess strong organizational, time management and analytical skills.
• Ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously, demands with competing priorities, all while making timely decisions.
• Must be able to prepare presentations and articulate the position being taken in the presentations.
• Must possess excellent interpersonal skills that allow the candidate the ability to meet results working with other departments, internal and external customers.
• Builds a high-performance team; hires and retains the right talent in the right roles; sets goals, delegates work, holds reports accountable; develops and empowers direct reports to make decisions and take action. • Manages and coordinates outside plant construction and protection, facility and equipment maintenance, and installation of fiber optic equipment throughout the assigned geographical area.
• Ensures performance results meet or exceed established service levels; on-time performance for service installation, customer response, network restoration, routine repair work, and installation quality.
• Contributes to the Division’s cost-effective management of the operations expense budget and capital expense budget with a focus on expense reduction; overtime, on-call, Fleet usage, tools and supplies, cell phone usage, etc.
• Evaluates situational events using alternative analysis, innovation, and good judgment to make effective decisions.
• Ensures compliance with established preventative maintenance inspection, quality assurance, safety, and training requirements in the established geographical area of responsibility
• Required to possess a valid driver's license
• The employee may occasionally lift and/or move up to 25 pounds
